Better (Brooke Fraser song)

"Better" is the debut single by Brooke Fraser from her multi-platinum and award-winning album What to Do with Daylight.

Song information

This was the song that introduced and launched Fraser as a recording artist in New Zealand. She wrote the song when she was in seventh form in high school. The song was also used in the New Zealand advertisements for World Vision, with Brooke appearing in them as well.

Chart performance

"Better" debuted on the New Zealand Singles Chart at number fifty on July 6, 2003 and peaked at number three where it stayed for four weeks. The song spent a total of twenty two weeks on the chart. Furthermore, the single was the tenth biggest song in the year-end Top 50 Singles of 2003.

Music video

In the video, Temuera Morrison played Brooke's father. He is basically a drunken and abusive father that can never take care of himself, and Brooke is looking for a way out.

Mike Hough

Michael Lloyd Hough (born February 6, 1963) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who played thirteen seasons in the National Hockey League from 1986–87 until 1998–99. Hough was born in Montreal, Quebec, but grew up in Mississauga, Ontario.

Hough was drafted 181st overall by the Quebec Nordiques in the 1982 NHL Entry Draft. He played 707 career NHL games, scoring 100 goals and 156 assists for 256 points. He had his best season in 1991–92 with 16 goals and 22 assists for 38 points, despite being sidelined for a month with a broken thumb. He was also the Nordiques' captain during that season.

Quebec traded Hough to the Washington Capitals in exchange for Reggie Savage and Paul MacDermid on June 20, 1993. Four days later, Washington left Hough unprotected for the 1993 NHL Expansion Draft, and he was claimed by the Florida Panthers where he played four seasons. He would be infamously remembered as scoring the goal in double overtime in the fifth game of the Panthers' semifinals series against the Flyers in 1996. This would turn out to be the last goal in the Spectrum. He ended his NHL career with the New York Islanders in 1999 after signing with them as a free agent on July 21, 1997.

The Golden Year is the sole album by Camden synthpop band Ou Est Le Swimming Pool.

Release

The album was originally intended for release in August 2010, but was delayed. The suicide of frontman Charles Haddon led to uncertainties about the status of the album; however the band's management issued a statement confirming its release in October 2010. It is to be followed by a fourth single, "The Key".

The original album had been leaked in early 2010, due to the sale of promotional copies on auction sites such as eBay. However, the track listing has since been altered, adding two new songs and removing one.

Union, South Carolina

The city of Union is the county seat of Union County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 8,393 at the 2010 census. It is the principal city of the Union Micropolitan Statistical Area (population 28,961 according to 2010 Census), an (MSA) which includes all of Union County and which is further included in the greater Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson, South Carolina Combined Statistical Area (population 1,266,995 according to the 2010 Census).

History

Both the city of Union and Union County received their names from the old Union Church that stood a short distance from the Monarch Mill. When it was first founded, the city of Union was known as Unionville; later the name was shortened to Union. The county’s first white settlers came from Virginia in 1749. Union County’s population grew the fastest between 1762 and the start of the Revolutionary War. Settlers built log cabins and cultivated tobacco, flax, corn and wheat. Union was one of the first towns settled in the area and was untouched during the Civil War because the Broad River flooded and turned Sherman’s troops away from the town.
