Bernard Brogan (senior)

Bernard 'Bernie' Brogan is a former Dublin Gaelic footballer. He played his club football with St Oliver Plunketts/Eoghan Ruadh.

Playing career

Bernard received an allstar for his performances in 1979. In 1974 he was on the panel that won Dublin's first All-Ireland title since 1963, however after being injured playing against Offaly in the Leinster Championship, did not play in the All-Ireland semi-final or final. He was on the all-Ireland senior football winning side for Dublin in 1976 against rivals Kerry by a scoreline of 3-8 to 0-10. The following year he got the crucial goal in what many believe to be the greatest game of all time when Dublin defeated Kerry in the All Ireland Football semi final. A few weeks later he collected his third All Ireland medal when Dublin defeated Armagh by a scoreline of 5-12 to 3-6. He also win two national football league division one medals for Dublin which he won in 1978 against Mayo and appeared as a substitute against Derry in the victorious 1976 final. Bernard is the father of current Dublin and St Oliver Plunketts footballers Paul, Bernard and Alan Brogan. His brother Jim Brogan also played for Dublin during the seventies. Bernard Brogan plays in middle full forward.

Bernard Brogan (junior)

Bernard Brogan (born 3 April 1984) is a Gaelic footballer from the St Oliver Plunketts/Eoghan Ruadh club who plays inter-county with Dublin. He is the Gaelic footballer with the second highest number of followers on Twitter, between Paul Galvin and Michael Murphy.

From a famous family, Brogan, is the son of former all-Ireland winning and All Star player Bernard senior and is the brother of current Dublin players Alan and Paul. His uncle Jim was also an inter-county footballer for Dublin. Alongside most of his family, Brogan has attended St. Declan's College on the Navan Road.

Playing career

Early years: 2006 - 2008

Brogan won the 2006 Sigerson Cup with DCU. He scored one point in the game against QUB. He was on the 2006 Plunketts team that won the Dublin Division Two League title with a win over Garda. He was named on the 2006 Dublin Bus/Evening Herald Blue Star football XV at left corner forward.

Brogan scored his first point for Dublin against Fermanagh in the 2007 NFL. He made his Championship debut for Dublin as a late sub in Dublin's quarter-final win over Meath. He made his first start for Dublin in the semi-final against Offaly, but was substituted in the 45th minute. He regained his position for the final against Laois at Croke Park, scoring 1-01 in Dublin's 3-14 to 1-14 Leinster title winning game. Along with brother Alan, he was nominated for an All Star Award in 2007 as half forward.
