Bennington is a New England town in Bennington County, Vermont, in the United States. It is one of two shire towns (county seats) of the county, the other being Manchester. The population is 15,431, as of 2014 US Census estimates. By population, Bennington is the largest town in southern Vermont, the third-largest town in Vermont (after Essex and Colchester), and the sixth-largest municipality in the state, when including the cities of Burlington, Rutland, and South Burlington.
Bennington is home to the Bennington Battle Monument, which is the tallest human-made structure in the state of Vermont. The town has ready access to natural resources and waterpower, and a long history of manufacture, primarily within wood processing. The town is also recognized nationally for its pottery, iron, and textiles.
First of the New Hampshire Grants, Bennington was chartered on January 3, 1749, by Colonial Governor Benning Wentworth and named in his honor. It was granted to William Williams and 61 others, mostly from Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The town was first settled in 1761 by four families from Hardwick and two from Amherst, Massachusetts. They were led by Capt. Samuel Robinson, who camped in the river valley on his return from the French and Indian War.

On July 3, 2014, Anthony Cumia was fired by Sirius XM, after making a series of tweets following an alleged off-air incident with a black woman on the street. Cumia tweeted that he was punched by the woman while attempting to take a picture in Times Square. The tweets were described by Sirius XM as "racially-charged and hate-filled". With Cumia's firing the Opie and Anthony show was filled with Opie with Jim Norton on Mondays through Thursdays.
On October 1 it was announced that Ron would be doing a new show on Fridays. Beginning October 17, 2014 Bennington would air on the Opie with Jim Norton Friday 7-10am time slot when Opie and Norton were off, on Opie Radio. The show's hashtag #Bennington trended at #2 throughout the entire initial broadcast.
On April 1, 2015, Fez Whatley of The Ron and Fez Show announced his retirement. Their final show aired on April 3rd, and the following week Ron and Fez played material highlighting their career with new material in between. At the end of the show, Friday April 10, Ron announced that their time slot would be replaced with Bennington five days a week.
