Apoptygma Berzerk /ɑːpɒpˈtᵻɡmɑːbərzərk/ (commonly abbreviated to APB or APOP) is a Norwegian musical group. They have achieved success with a brand of synthpop, and ballads backed with electronic rhythms, commonly known within the scene and referring to themselves as "futurepop". Apoptygma Berzerk has over 30 releases and won awards and Top 10 spots in Germany and Scandinavia. Apoptygma Berzerk has toured Europe, North America, South America, Israel and Australia with bands such as VNV Nation, Beborn Beton, Icon of Coil and Unheilig.
The band was formed by Stephan Groth and Jon Erik Martinsen in 1989. Together they wrote several songs, one of them "Ashes To Ashes" would later be released as a 12-inch single on the Norwegian label Tatra Productions in 1991. Jon Erik left the band shortly afterwards feeling uncomfortable with the direction of the band's music.
The name "Apoptygma Berzerk" either has a secret meaning or does not mean anything. Frontman and founding member Stephan Groth claims that it was randomly picked out of a dictionary (apoptygma being derived from the Ancient Greek word ἀπόπτυγμα meaning "piece of a tunic"). The first word of the name is pronounced a-pop-tig-ma. (Apoptosis is a similar sounding biological term for programmed cell death; stigmata are crucifixion-like marks on skin.).
"Bend and Break" is a song performed and composed by English rock band Keane, released as the sixth and last single from their debut album Hopes and Fears. This single was released only in some European countries (not in the United Kingdom) such as Germany and Austria, similarly to their 2007 single "Try Again". However "Bend and Break" was still heard on some American radio stations. The single features "Bend and Break", "On a Day Like Today" and a live version of "Allemande", as well as the "Bend and Break" live videoclip. "Bend and Break" is drummer Richard Hughes' favourite Keane song. This was also the last single that used the typeface "Cochin", the one used in the Hopes and Fears era.
British trance artist Chicane, used a sample of this song in his 2006 release "Wake Up".
The Norwegian band Apoptygma Berzerk recorded a cover for their Sonic Diary covers compilation album.
Composed by Tim Rice-Oxley in 2001, it was first played at the pubs that hosted the band's early performances. First demos were almost the same as the album version, but with an extra vocal on the song's bridge, similar to the one on the final chorus of "Somewhere Only We Know". It was recorded like most Keane songs at the Heliocentric Studios, Rye, East Sussex.
You're the proud crowd waiting forthe guinea pigs to die somewhere tonight.
You can't find the time to celebrate andyou have no goodbyes to give away.
You are always telling lies, you never show me what you feel inside.
You're boring, you're a waste of time. Please leave me and I leave you all behind.
We decide what's wrong and right. We rather loose than fight.
We're going down. And down.
Without us you can not exist.Without us you don't get no kicks,
