Libra (DC Comics)

Libra is a fictional character, a supervillain appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. He first appeared in Justice League of America #111 (May-June 1974), where he formed the first incarnation of the Injustice Gang (though there had been other villain groups with similar names, like the Injustice Society and the Injustice League). Libra made his return with a leading role in Final Crisis in 2008.

Publication history

Libra's only major appearance, prior to his appearance in Final Crisis, was in Justice League of America #111–112, in 1974. In 2004, he made a brief cameo in the JLA/Avengers crossover (#4) by Kurt Busiek and George Pérez.

Grant Morrison, the writer of Final Crisis, explained the reason for picking an obscure villain:

In May 2008, his appearances were reprinted in DC Universe Special: Justice League of America at the same time as he was reintroduced, along with the Human Flame (a Martian Manhunter foe who appeared in Detective Comics #274), in Justice League of America #21. He returns, apparently retaining the full might of his godlike status, to lead a new and final incarnation of the Secret Society of Super-Villains, this time offering to every villain, from simple costumed crooks to major ones, the realization of his/her fondest wish.

Believer (American Authors song)

"Believer" is the debut single by American indie rock band American Authors. The song was written by band members Zac Barnett, Dave Rublin, Matt Sanchez, and James Adam Shelley, along with producers Aaron Accetta and Shep Goodman. "Believer" first appeared on their 2013 American Authors EP and was released as the band's debut single on March 19, 2012; it was later included on their debut studio album, Oh, What a Life (2014).

Release

"Believer" initially garnered airplay on United States modern rock radio in early 2013, and was later re-released to modern rock, triple A, hot adult contemporary and mainstream radio following the success of the band's second single "Best Day of My Life". A remix of the song by Dutch DJ Tiësto was issued as a digital single on July 22, 2014. There is an accompanying music video that shows two boys working together to build a time machine

Believer (Kutless album)

Believer is the seventh full-length studio album by the Christian rock band Kutless. It was released on February 28, 2012. The first single, "Carry Me to the Cross" has seen success on the Billboard Christian Songs chart with a peak at No. 15. The album debuted at No. 2 on Billboard's Hot Christian Albums chart and No. 42 on the Billboard 200. The album later peak at No. 1 on Hot Christian Albums and No. 36 on the 200 chart, becoming Kutless' highest position in the 200 so far.

This is the last album to feature long-time bassist Dave Luetkenhoelter and drummer Jeff Gilbert, who left the band in 2013 and 2012, respectively.

About.com's Kim Jones said that the album "Bottom Line - our lives are a journey and since we know where our ultimate destination lies, the people and the events we find ourselves participating in during the trip take on more importance. Believer mimics that in that it is a journey, but the individual songs speak to different moments in our walks, giving some more weight than others today and then switching it up and highlighting others still tomorrow. Like Jesus meets us where we are at, the well-crafted songs on this album do the same."

Believer (Goldfrapp song)

"Believer" is a synthpop song by English duo Goldfrapp from their fifth studio album, Head First. Written and produced by Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory, with additional production by Pascal Gabriel, the song was released as the album's third and final single on 6 September 2010.

Release

The single was confirmed in July 2010 in an email to fans, where it was also confirmed that Vince Clarke and Davide Rossi would remix the single, among others. Goldfrapp performed the song on Alan Carr: Chatty Man on 22 August 2010.

Critical reception

"Believer" received positive reviews from critics. In a review for Slant Magazine, Sal Cinquemani described the song as "a bit of new wave-inflected computer pop (think B-52s meets Erasure) that finds Alison's faith in Cupid restored." Ian Wade from BBC Music stated that "the stupendous 'Believer', with its stadium-sized chorus, appears like a turbo-charged Fleetwood Mac." Heather Phares from Allmusic commented that the song "sounds instantly familiar, but not tired or obvious", and Digital Spy reviewer Nick Levine wrote that "the synths on 'Believer' bounce along like vintage Erasure."The Independent's Andy Gill opined that the song, "with its childlike lyric [...] set to a basic Eighties' synth riff, is exactly in step with retro-electropop fashion."
