Empires (Bring Me Men)

"Empires (Bring Me Men)" is a song by British artist Lamya. It was released in 2002. It was the first single taken from her first album Learning From Falling.

It is based on a poem The Coming American, commemorating the 75th anniversary of the American acquisition of the state of California, by American librarian and poet Samuel Walter Foss.

A remix of the song reached #1 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart in 2002.

Empires is the fourth studio album from Australian contemporary worship music band Hillsong United, a worship band from Hillsong Church. The album was released on 26 May 2015, under Hillsong Music, Sparrow Records and Capitol Christian Music Group.Michael Guy Chislett served as the album's producer, with vocalist Joel Houston serving as creative director and co-producer. "Touch the Sky" was released as the album's lead single in March 2015.

Background

The cover of Empires was launched into space on 12 March 2015. To further promote the album, the group performed single "Touch the Sky" on the Today Show on 2 April 2015. The album is United's fourth album, which was released on 26 May 2015 by Hillsong Music and Sparrow Records. It was released in CD, digital download, and vinyl formats.

Singles

The lead single from the album was "Touch the Sky", which was released to digital retailers on 24 March 2015, and to Christian radio on 11 April 2015.

"Say the Word" was released as the second single from the album on 1 February 2016.

Empires is an indie rock band from Chicago, IL. The band consists of Tom Conrad, Sean Van Vleet, Max Steger, and Mike Robinson.

Background

In early 2008, Empires was formed when longtime friends guitarist Tom Conrad approached singer Sean Van Vleet about writing music together. Conrad and Van Vleet spent the year writing music together, and the induction of the other band members soon followed. The band's name, "Empires", was thought of by Tom Conrad and Sean Van Vleet at the same time, albeit on opposite sides of Chicago (Tom was on the 'L' Train at the time, while Sean was at their shared apartment).

The band has consistently mentioned having a very DIY ethic when it comes to recording and releasing music with Max Steger as an producer / engineer, Tom Conrad as an designer and Sean Van Vleet as an writer. In 2014, the band's third full-length studio album, Orphan, was produced by John Congleton and released on Island Records / Chop Shop Records.

Empires made their national television debut on David Letterman on June 17, 2014.

Believe is the sixth studio album by Canadian country music group Emerson Drive. The album was released in Canada on May 5, 2009 via Midas/Valory/Open Road. The album's first single, "Belongs to You," reached the top forty on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart in the United States.

Critical reception

The album received mixed reviews from music critics. It received a three-and-a-half star rating from Todd Sterling of AllMusic, who said that the album was "slickly produced" and that it "sticks to the well-worn formula of the group's previous releases," but said that it had "every color of the musical rainbow." Sterling cited "Your Last" as a standout, calling it a "lump-in-the-throat masterpiece." Jim Malec of The 9513 gave it one star out of five, referring to the song's lyrics as largely cliché in nature and saying, "There is not a single song on Believe worth hearing. It is an entirely disposable album that is unoriginal, uninteresting and unnecessary." Malec also criticized the album's sound, saying that the mixing of instruments and Brad Mates' vocals did not seem cohesive.

'Believe' was favourably reviewed by Zeth Lundy of popmatters.com who concluded "The next time you take the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack from the stereo, pining for some oomph to your Americana, reach for Th’ Legendary Shack Shakers. “Colonel” J.D. Wilkes calls himself a jumpin’ jimdaddy, and before long, you will too." Ben Donnelly of dusted.com reviewed the album and commented that "Translating this band's strengths to record will probably always be a challenge. ... Still, they make the most of the challenge."

Robert Plant, of Led Zeppelin fame, named "Believe" as his favorite album of 2005.

"Believe" is a 1994 song recorded by Elton John. It was the first single from his album Made in England and was released on 20 February 1995. It reached #1 in Canada. In the US, "Believe" was Elton John's fifteenth number one on the Adult Contemporary chart and also went to number thirteen on the Billboard Hot 100. It gave him his third straight top twenty single in the US, with his two hit singles from Disney's The Lion King preceding it. In Europe, it was a top twenty hit in Switzerland, UK, France and Belgium (Wallonia) and achieved moderate success in several other countries. The songs which feature as B-side were recorded at the Greek Theatre, in Los Angeles.

The music video for the song was entirely in black-and-white and shot in London, featuring shots of the Believe Wall in the beginning and end of the video.
