Bed sheet

A bed sheet is a rectangular cloth used to cover a mattress and those sleeping upon it. They are the sheets which one typically lies between. In many places a second flat bed sheet is laid on top of the sheet covering the mattress. When a second sheet is used, the top one is known as the top sheet and the sheet covering the mattress is known as the bottom sheet, or "coupie sheet" in some European countries. If the bottom sheet is shaped and sewn to fit snugly over the mattress, it is known as a fitted sheet. Blankets, quilts, duvets, comforters and other bed covers are placed on top of the top sheet.

In some Asian countries, such as China, top sheets are not used. Flat sheets are often used in place of fitted sheets or together with them as bottom sheets. Families typically sleep with only a duvet covering them.

History

The term bed sheet was first used in the 15th century. Bed sheets were traditionally white and made of linen, cotton or silk, but now various colors and patterns are used.

A bed ( listen ) is a piece of furniture used as a place to sleep or relax. It has a secondary use as a place to engage in sexual relations.

Most modern beds consist of a soft mattress on a bed frame, with the mattress resting either on a solid base, often wooden slats, or a sprung base. Many beds include a box spring inner-sprung base, a large mattress-sized box containing wood and springs that provide additional support and suspension for the mattress. Beds are available in many sizes, ranging from infant-sized bassinets and cribs, small beds for a single child or adult, to large queen and king-size beds designed for two adults. While most beds are single mattresses on a fixed frame, there are other varieties, such as the murphy bed, which folds into a wall, the sofa bed, which folds out of a sofa, and the bunk bed, which provides two mattresses on two tiers. Temporary beds include the inflatable air mattress and the folding camp cot. Some beds contain neither a padded mattress nor a bed frame, such as the hammock.

Bedő is a village in Hajdú-Bihar county, in the Northern Great Plain region of eastern Hungary.

Geography

It covers an area of 10.2 km² (4 sq mi) and has a population of 307 people (2001).
