"Beautiful People" is a song written and recorded by the Pet Shop Boys group, and was released on 2 October 2009, as the third single from their tenth studio album: Yes. This single was released in Germany only first, at the request of EMI. In November it was released in the USA as a download.
The B-side, "Fugitive", had previously been published (in an extended version) on the limited edition of their 2006 album Fundamental. The song was produced by Richard X.
Both the demo version of "Beautiful People" and the remix of "Up And Down" had been previously available digitally. The demo was available to stream from the official Pet Shop Boys website and the remix was available as a free download during the "Did You See Me Coming?" single campaign. Remixes by Vinny Vero were commissioned but not used due to delays in their completion. They were later released unofficially as a free download on Vero's website.
Beautiful People is a 1971 album by UK pop group The New Seekers. This was the group's third album and their last one released in the UK on the Philips record label. It was their first to be solely produced by David Mackay who would guide the group through their most successful period over the next two years.
The New Seekers had found top 20 success in the US with the song "Look What They've Done to My Song Ma" in 1970, which was also a more minor hit in the UK. Subsequent singles however failed to attract as much attention until mid 1971 when they released "Never Ending Song of Love", which was featured on this album. The song rose to #2 in the UK and became one of the biggest selling singles of the year, remaining on the chart for 17 weeks. This album, which was released in May 1971 also included the earlier singles "When There's No Love Left" (released in December 1970) and the US-release "Beautiful People", which was written by Melanie Safka, who had also penned the group's first hit. This latter single made #67 on the Billboard Hot 100. The US version of the album differed from the UK release with a slightly different track listing. This was the group's first album release there and reached #136 on the US album charts.
It should be easier, I should be good at this by now,
After all this time, I should really have it down,
But I don't want you back, even though that's how it sounds,
But I can't lie, I miss having you around.
If I really love you then I gotta learn to let go,
Memories won't lead me to heaven though,
I'm doing everything I gotta do to get through,
But it's a b*tch making love without you.
Woah-o-o, woah-oh,
I can run but I can't escape you,
Woah-o-o, woah-oh,
Wish I could learn to hate you.
It's like a hurricane, came and tore my world apart,
And in the aftermath, I'm finding pieces of my heart,
If I was mad at you, I would already have moved on,
But in reality you were good to me but you left where you belong.
I must admit I, I've done some stupid things,
I can't forgive myself for anything,
I wish I could rise above, I wish I didn't care,
I wish I didn't care.
'Cos it was more than just our first time,
I can't believe you broke it off before we even tried,
Now I can't breath in, I can't feel the feeling,
I'm not blaming you I know you had your reasons,
But f*ck all those people that say I wasn't right for you,
And lied to you and said I did things that I didn't do,
Well I swear to God I would have died for you,
I would have died for you, I would have died for you.
If I really love you then I gotta learn to let go,
Memories won't lead me to heaven though,
I'm doing everything I gotta do to get through,
But it's a b*tch making love without you.
Woah-o-o, woah-oh,
I can run but I can't escape you,
Woah-o-o, woah-oh,
Wish I could learn to hate you,
Woah-o-o, woah-oh,
Wish I could learn to hate you,
Woah-o-o, woah-oh,
Wish I could learn to hate you,
Woah-o-o, woah-oh, I can't escape you,
Woah-o-o, woah-oh, I can't escape you,
Wish I could learn to hate you
