Mantra (Material song)

"Mantra" is a 1993 song and single by Material (band) from the album Hallucination Engine, composed by Bill Laswell and Lakshminarayana Shankar. Mantra received favourable reviews in Spin, The Wire and Stereophile. The album version was remixed by The Orb to a 17 minute track for the single, and also given a 5 minute version.

"Mantra" begins with a "wailing Middle Eastern introduction", an ambient drone played by Shankar on electric violin, and is then propelled by tandem tablas of Zakir Hussain and Trilok Gurtu.

It was issued as a 12" and CD single in 1993 (Axiom / Island, AXMCD1) featuring the 17 minute "Praying Mantra Mix" by The Orb, the album's 8 minute "Doors of Perception Mix", and a 5 minute edit.

Mantra (In Vain album)

Mantra is the second album by Norwegian progressive death metal band In Vain. It was released on January 18, 2010 by Indie Recordings. The album was recorded and mixed at the Dub Studio, in Kristiansand, between July 2008 and April 2009. The album was mastered in Strype Audio on May 2009.

The album was met with generally positive reviews and have currently a rating of 4/5 stars on sputnikmusic. There were released at special double disc edition with the bonus track "In Remembrance", which is a re-recorded version of the track first released on the "Wounds" EP in 2005. This album does not feature Even Fuglestad as an official member, but his contributions were credited as guest. Current guitarist Kjetil D. Pedersen was also featured as a guest on this album.

Genesis

The band is originally from Darjeeling. Within no time, the Mantra band got popularity in Nepal and has produced many patriotNepal. Its music and lyrics are well appreciated by the youths of Nepali Languages, therefore remains very popular in the Himalayas.

Band Popularity

The Mantra band has produced many popular songs. Bir Gorkhali, Himali Nepali, Ekantama and Sanskriti, Timi bina are some of them. Bir Gorkhali, a song which first appeared in their debut album (Mantra) had also been featured by Prashant Tamang (the winner of Indian idol season 3), in his solo album 'Dhanyabad'.

The Current Band Members

The current band members are: Bhasker Dewan (lead vocals), Pragya Lama (guitars), Birju Chowdhary (drums), Manish Thapa (keyboard), Bidhan (flute, saxophone) and Pravash Subba (bass) . The band’s regular song writer (Lyricist) is Sudarshan Tamang. Bishal Thapa is the former drummer and one of the founder members of the band.

Drifter (floating device)

A drifter (also float) is an oceanographic device floating on the surface or at a given water depth to investigate ocean currents and other parameters like temperature or salinity. They are also called Lagrangian drifters since they follow the flow in a Lagrangian manner. The depth of drifter is defined by its neutral buoyancy. The device stops sinking when its buoyancy force is in equilibrium with its gravitational force.

Construction principle

The major component of a drifter are hollow bodies that ensure flotation, underwater-sails to catch water currents, instruments (e.g., data collecting instruments, transmitters to transmit the collected data, and GPS devices), and waterproof containers for instruments. Drifters are a hi-tech evolution of the ocean current analysis by means of drift bottles, which in their turn evolved from simple collection of data about messages in a bottle.

Applications

Physical oceanography

Drifters provide real-time information about ocean circulation. The data is a valuable input for weather forecasts as meteorological satellites can at maximum measure the sea surface temperature or the surface roughness of the world oceans, but it is not possible to look into the water column. Data from inside the ocean is helpful for hurricane prediction as well.

Drifter (fishing boat)

A drifter is a type of fishing boat. They were designed to catch herrings in a long drift net. Herring fishing using drifters has a long history in the Netherlands and in many British fishing ports, particularly in East Scottish ports.

Until the mid-1960s fishing fleets in the North Sea comprised drifters and trawlers, with the drifters primarily targeting herring while the trawlers caught cod, plaice, skate and haddock, etc. By the mid-1960s the catches were greatly diminishing, particularly the herring. Consequently, the drifter fleet disappeared and many of the trawlers were adapted to work as service ships for the newly created North Sea oil rigs.

Drifters preserved as museum ships include Lydia Eva, a steam drifter of the herring fishing fleet based in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, and Reaper, a restored Scottish Fifie herring drifter at the Scottish Fisheries Museum.

Naval drifters were boats built in the same way used by the Royal Navy primarily to maintain and patrol anti-submarine nets. They were either purpose-built for naval use or requisitioned from private owners.

Aftermath (Amy Lee album)

Aftermath is the soundtrack for Mark Jackson's film War Story, performed by Amy Lee and featuring Dave Eggar. It was released on August 25, 2014.

Background

Lee announced the film score project on her Twitter account in December 2013. In a January 2014 interview with MTV News, she said the new material would "surprise" her fans, explaining that "It's not what you'd expect; ... There's a lot of blending of sounds, a lot of ominous tones. I play a lot of keyboard, and a lot of Taurus pedal. There's a lot of low drones."

Critical reception

George Garner of Kerrang! praised Lee's efforts for edging away from the heaviness of Evanescence. He described the album as containing all minimalist pianos and eerie strings, and that it was the best representation of Lee's voice and talent to date.
