Batu Anam

Batu Anam is a small town in the northern part of Segamat District, Johor, Malaysia.

Economy

Batu Anam is surrounded by rubber and oil palm plantations and the more prominent plantations are Sungei Senarut Estate, Paya Lang Estate and Gomali Estate with a number of smaller estates and smallholdings. There is an old rubber factory known as H&C Latex still in use. Paya Lang Club had a beautiful 9-hole Golf Course which is now planted with Palm Oil trees after the plantation was sold to local interests.

Education

Batu Anam offers both lower and higher level education center. It host Sekolah Kebangsaan Batu Anam, SRJK (C) Hwa Nan and SRJK (T) Batu Anam for primary school. For secondary school, the town has SMK Batu Anam and SMK Sri Kenangan, a smart school located 2 km from Batu Anam town. For higher education center, Batu Anam is a host of Kolej Komuniti Segamat II and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Johor.

Transportation

The town is served by Batu Anam Railway Station of Keretapi Tanah Melayu.

Enamelin is a protein that in humans is encoded by the ENAM gene.

Dental enamel is a highly mineralized tissue with 85% of its volume occupied by unusually large, highly organized, hydroxyapatite crystals. This highly organized and unusual structure is thought to be rigorously controlled in ameloblasts through the interaction of a number of organic matrix molecules that include enamelin, amelogenin (AMELX; MIM 300391), ameloblastin (AMBN; MIM 601259), tuftelin (TUFT1; MIM 600087), dentine sialophosphoprotein (DSPP; MIM 125485), and a variety of enzymes. Mutations in the ENAM gene can give rise to autosomal dominant Amelogenesis imperfecta, indicating a role in Amelogenesis.

Human Genome Organisation

The Human Genome Organisation (HUGO) is an organization involved in the Human Genome Project, a project about mapping the human genome. HUGO was established in 1989 as an international organization, primarily to foster collaboration between genome scientists around the world. The HUGO Gene Nomenclature Committee (HGNC), sometimes referred to as "HUGO", is one of HUGO's most active committees and aims to assign a unique gene name and symbol to each human gene.

History

HUGO was established in late April 1988 at the first meeting dedicated to genome mapping at Cold Spring Harbor. The idea of starting the organization stemmed from a South African biologist by the name of Sydney Brenner, who is known for his significant contributions to work on the genetic code and other areas of molecular biology, as well as winning the Nobel prize in Physiology of Medicine in 2002. A Founding Council was elected at the meeting that total 42 scientists from 17 different countries. HUGO is grounded in Geneva Switzerland, and later went on to elect an additional 178 members, bringing the total up to 220.
