Barauni

Barauni (Hindi बरौनी) (Urdu برونی) is a town in the state of Bihar, India.

Barauni is the industrial town of Begusarai district, Bihar.

The town situated at the bank of the holy river Ganges is connected by a Railway-cum-Road bridge over connecting North Bihar and South Bihar known as Rajendra Setu officially but as "Simariya pul(bridge)" in common parlance.

Barauni Junction is one of the important stations in Bihar. It is a junction and is connected to the all the four metropolis New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai through important Broad Gauge Routes. It takes around 15 hours to reach Barauni from New Delhi through train. It is the gateway to North Eastern India as it connects the North-East States with the rest of the country. Barauni has two railway stations – I.) Barauni Junction (old) where trains from Patna side enter and reverse to proceed towards North East (exception is for trains coming from Samastipur side where reversal is not needed) and II.) Barauni (Vidhan Sabha constituency)

Barauni (Vidhan Sabha constituency) (Hindi: बरौनी विधान सभा निर्वाचन क्षेत्र) was an assembly constituency in Begusarai district in the Indian state of Bihar.

As a consequence of the orders of the Delimitation Commission of India, Ballia (Vidhan Sabha constituency) ceased to exist in 2010. It is now renamed as Teghra Teghra (Vidhan Sabha constituency).

It was part of Balia (Lok Sabha constituency).

1977-2005

In the October 2005 Bihar Assembly elections, Rajendra Prasad Singh of CPI won the Barauni seat defeating his nearest rival Surendra Mehta of BJP. Contests in most years were multi cornered but only winners and runners are being mentioned. Rajendra Prasad Singh of CPI defeated Pradip Rai of LJP in February 2005, Ram Lakhan Singh of BJP in 2000 and 1995. Shivdani Singh of CPI defeated Kamla Devi of Congress in 1990. Shakuntala Sinha of CPI defeated Kamla Devi of Congress in 1985. Rameshwar Singh of CPI defeated Sidhweshar Prasad Singh of Congress (I) in 1980. Suryanarayan Singh of CPI defeated Kapil Dev Singh of Janata Party in 1977.
