Baojun (simplified Chinese: 宝骏; traditional Chinese: 寳駿; pinyin: Bǎojùn; literally: "Treasured Horse") is a Chinese automobile marque owned by SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile, a partnership between General Motors and SAIC Motor.
The Baojun marque was established in 2010 as an alternative to existing GM brands Chevrolet and Buick, which are also on sale in China. The company's products compete with domestic Chinese manufacturers such as Chery Automobile and Geely Automobile.
The joint venture's commercial vehicles remain under the Wuling Automobile marque.
The marque's first vehicle is the Baojun 630, a four-door sedan that has been produced since November 2010. Sales started in late 2011 through a dedicated dealer network.
The joint-venture also offers a localized version of the Daewoo Matiz known as the Baojun Lechi. A third model, the 610, was announced at Auto China 2014. At Auto Shanghai 2015, the company introduced the 560 SUV. And in July, 2014, SAIC-GM-Wuling launched the 730, a seven-seater MPV.
The Baojun 730 is a five-door seven-seater MPV launched by the Baojun car marque at the 2014 Auto China motor show. The car was developed at the SAIC-GM-Wuling Chinese joint venture specifically for the Chinese market. Baojun sold 250,000 units in the first year of sales.
The 730 is powered by a choice of 4-cylinder engines: a 110 bhp (82 kW; 112 PS) 1.5 L (1485 cc) engine producing 108 lb·ft (146 N·m) and a 1.8 L (1796 cc) version, producing 135 bhp (101 kW; 137 PS). Both are mated to a five-speed transmission and the suspension was tuned by Lotus.
The Baojun 630 is a four-door sedan and was the first car produced by Baojun. The 630 is manufactured in Liuzhou, Guangxi, China. It was launched at the 2011 Shanghai Auto Show, and went on sale in August 2011. A five-door hatchback derivative called the 610 was added to the range in April 2014.
The car was developed at the SAIC-GM Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center (PATAC) in Shanghai. While not visually similar to other GM cars, it has been suggested that the 630 is based on the Buick Excelle/Daewoo Lacetti platform.
In 2014 the car debuted in Egypt and Algeria as Chevrolet Optra.
The 630 is powered by a 4-cylinder 109 bhp (81 kW; 111 PS) 1.5 L (1485 cc) engine producing 108 lb·ft (146 N·m) and mated to a five-speed transmission. A 1.8 L (1796 cc) version, producing 141 bhp (105 kW; 143 PS) 177 NM was added to the range in November 2012.
The car is 4,597 mm (181.0 in) long, sits on a 2,640 mm (103.9 in) wheelbase and weighs 1,206 kg (2,659 lb).
