Kathiri (Arabic: الكثيري al-Kathīrī, officially the Kathiri State of Seiyun in Hadhramaut (Arabic: السلطنة الكثيرية - سيؤن - حضرموت al-Salṭanah al-Kathīrīyah - Sayʾūn - Ḥaḍramawt) was a sultanate in the Hadhramaut region of the southern Arabian Peninsula, in what is now part of Yemen and the Dhofar region of Oman.
The Kathiris is original oh Banu Hamadan once ruled much of Hadhramaut but their power was truncated by the rival Qu'aitis in the 19th century. The Kathiris were eventually restricted to a small inland portion of Hadhramaut with their capital at Seiyun (Say'un). The sultanate entered into treaty relations with the British in the late 19th century and became a part of the Aden Protectorate. The Kathiri State declined to join the Federation of South Arabia but remained under British protection as part of the Protectorate of South Arabia. Al Husayn ibn Ali, Kathiri sultan since 1949 was overthrown in October 1967 and, the following month, the former sultanate became part of newly independent South Yemen
Kathir is a very popular Tamil filmmaker. Composer A. R. Rahman had composed music for most of his films; and hence many of them were dubbed into Hindi and musically successful.

A heart wrenching film portrays a filmmaker's sacred and eternal love. The film's intense and passionate music was composed by A.R.Rahman. The astounding real computer graphics used in the song "Sonnalum keatpathilai Kanni manathu" got Kathir raving reviews. Through this film, which starred Vivek (comedian) and Abbas, Kathir introduced the lead actors, Sridevi and Richard and also a new cinematographer Arjun. The film received the State award for best photography.
Kathir was born in Kalkarai, a small village in the Radhapuram taluk district of Thirunelveli, state of Tamil Nadu, India.
Kathir grew up in a middle-class family as the only son along with his three sisters. His father Subbiah was a farmer and mother Isakiammal assisted him in his farming. Kathir had his elementary schooling in Kalkarai Chiristian elementary school. He finished his 5th standard there and joined Nehru middle school, Vadakangulam. After completing his 8th standard there he attended the Concordia high school, Vadakangulam for just one year to study 9th standard. Then joined St. Teresa's school in Vadakangulam. He completed his school studies here.
