Boy (duo)

Boy (stylized BOY) is a Swiss/German pop duo founded in 2007 by Swiss singer Valeska Steiner and German bassist Sonja Glass. The two met while at a pop-music course at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg in 2005. The band initially played concerts exclusively, before being discovered and signed to Herbert Grönemeyer's label, Grönland Records, in 2011.

Their debut album, Mutual Friends (Gold-certified in Germany), was produced by Philipp Steinke and released in the autumn of 2011. The band sings entirely in English in a style reminiscent of that of Leslie Feist.

In the UK, Mutual Friends was released by Decca in June 2012. The North American release of the album is set for February 2013 on Nettwerk Records.

Boy won the Hamburg Musician Prize HANS in 2011 in the category Hamburgs Newcomer of the Year, and their album Mutual Friends won the 2012 European Border Breakers Award (EBBA).

The duo's song "Little Numbers" was also featured in the Lufthansa Airline's Business Class advertisement in mid-2012. In 2013 the song was at No. 4 in the Japan Hot 100.

    Edgar Tekere

Edgar Zivanai Tekere (1 April 1937 – 7 June 2011), nicknamed "2 Boy", was a Zimbabwean politician. He was the second and last Secretary General of the Zimbabwe African National Union who organised the party during the Lancaster House talks and served in government before his popularity as a potential rival to Robert Mugabe caused their estrangement.

    Pre-Independence

During the war, Tekere served on the ZANU high command, or Dare reChimurenga. He was detained by the Rhodesian government at Gonakudzingwa.

    Early life

Edgar Zivanai "2-Boy" (nom de guerre) Tekere was an early ally of Robert Mugabe within the Zimbabwe African National Union (of which he was a founder member in 1964) during the fight for independence and against the Rhodesian Front government of Ian Smith. Mugabe and Tekere, having served eleven and a half years in Hwa-Hwa Penitentiary & Gonakudzingwa State Prison as political prisoners of Ian Smith's government, immediately left upon release and crossed the Eastern Highlands Border in Mutare through the mountains by foot, following the Gairezi river trail to Seguranza military camp in Mozambique, to mastermind and kickstart guerilla warfare, aided by Samora Machel, in 1975. The Bush War or Second Chimurenga raged on. harassment of Tekere's close family members and relatives by the platoon of Rhodesian Front Soldiers, Selous Scouts, Police Special Branch and Central Intelligence Organisation, under the auspices of Ian Smith.

    Banjo

The banjo is a four-, five- or (occasionally) six-stringed instrument with a thin membrane stretched over a frame or cavity as a resonator, called the head. The membrane, or head, is typically made of plastic, although animal skin is still occasionally but rarely used, and the frame is typically circular. Early forms of the instrument were fashioned by Africans in America, adapted from African instruments of similar design.

The banjo is frequently associated with country, folk, Irish traditional and bluegrass music. Historically, the banjo occupied a central place in African American traditional music, before becoming popular in the minstrel shows of the 19th century. The banjo, with the fiddle, is a mainstay of American old-time music. It is also very frequently used in Traditional Jazz.

    History

There are several theories concerning the origin of the name banjo. It could have come from the Yoruba word or term "Bami jo" which means "dance for me". It may derive from the Kimbundu term mbanza. Some etymologists believe it comes from a dialectal pronunciation of the Portuguese "bandore" or from an early anglicisation of the Spanish word bandurria, though other research suggests that it may come from a West African term for a bamboo stick formerly used for the instrument's neck.

    Banjo (wood lathe)

In the craft of woodturning, a banjo is a common term for a fixture on the wood lathe, mounted on the lathe's bed, for holding the toolrest. It allows for adjustment of the toolrest in various positions, by the lathe operator, making it possible to hold the turning tool in the most convenient position for removing material from the spinning wood. The chosen position of the fixture can be locked in place on the lathe's bed in various ways, the most common method being a lever at the forward end of the fixture which acts upon an eccentric shaft with an attached clamp to secure the fixture to the lathe's bed.

    Banjo (mobile application)

Banjo is a highly visual app and website that allows users to experience breaking news and live events in real time through the eyes of the people who are there. Founded in 2011 by Damien Patton, Banjo is known as ‘The Live Internet,’ because it offers users an all access pass to breaking news and live events. The platform pulls public, geotagged content from Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Foursquare, Path, Google Plus, VKontakte and EyeEm, then indexes the world’s largest collection of social posts by location, time and content.

    Company Information

Founded by Damien Patton in Redwood City, CA, Banjo launched on June 22, 2011. The app was originally conceived of as a tool for ensuring you never missed out on friends nearby. The app reached 500,000 users in six months and one million users in nine months. Banjo reached 3 million users shortly after the release of Banjo 3.0 on November 15, 2012.

In January 2014, Banjo announced a total overhaul of its app and mission. Banjo 4.0 featured a sleek, simplified, interface, where events became the centerpiece. The new version made it easier to discover and experience live events in real time. Banjo currently has 6 million users.

    Ford Falcon (Australia)

The Ford Falcon is a full-sized car which has been manufactured by the Ford Motor Company of Australia since 1960. From the XA series of 1972 onward, each Falcon and range of derivates have been designed, developed, and built in Australia, following the phasing out of the American-influenced Falcon of 1960 to 1971, which had been re-engineered locally as the XK to XY series for the harsher Australian conditions. The luxury-oriented Ford Fairmont model joined the range from 1965. Luxury long-wheelbase derivative versions called the Ford Fairlane and LTD arrived in 1967 and 1973, respectively (with production ending in 2007).

The Ford Falcon and its derivates have been Australian-made best-sellers, with over 3,000,000 sales in seven generations to 2003, almost exclusively in Australia and New Zealand, but also South Africa. Along with its closest Australian-made rival, the Holden Commodore, the Falcon has dominated the ranks of taxis in Australia and New Zealand, as well as police car and company fleets.

    PLAYLIST TIME:

    Banjo Boy

    by: Ryan Shupe & Rubberband

I wanna be a rock star and travel really far
And buy me a big expensive car
And make lots of money and find me a honey
And live in nice big house where it's sunny
With a pool and I'll be cool
I'll always have a gig 'cause I'll be big
I'll have parties and friends and places to go
The only problem is I play the banjo, I play the banjo
    I'm a post Hee-Haw mover
    A funkadelic punk-rock groover
    A cross between Bela Fleck
    And Eddie Vedder but better
I'll win a Grammy for the way I pick
I'll be an instrumental monster with tons of new licks
And all the babes will love me to sell-out shows
The only problem is I play the banjo, I play the banjo
    Well, I play the banjo
Play the banjo, play the banjo
I play the banjo, I play the banjo
    Well, I play the banjo
Play the banjo, play the banjo
I play the banjo, I play the banjo
I say hear me boys, here my rhyme
I'm picking on the banjo all the time
I say hear me boys, here my song
Picking on the banjo all day long, picking
I have a Lear Jet and a limousine
And everywhere I go my fans will scream
Hey Banjo Boy, we love you
I wish that we could all play the banjo too
And you'll see me on the TV talk show
With Dave and Conan and Jay Leno
The only problem is I play the banjo
    Well, I play the banjo
Play the banjo, play the banjo
I play the banjo, I play the banjo
    Well, I play the banjo
Play the banjo, play the banjo
Well, I play the banjo, I play the banjo
    Well, I play the banjo
Play the banjo, play the banjo
I play the banjo, I play the banjo
    I play the banjo
Play the banjo, play the banjo
