Bandit Queen is a 1994 Indian biographical film based on the life of Phoolan Devi. It was directed by Shekhar Kapur and starred Seema Biswas as the title character. It was produced by Bobby Bedi's Kaleidoscope Entertainment. The music was composed by Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. The film won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi, Filmfare Critics Award for Best Movie and Best Direction for that year. The film was premiered in the Directors' Fortnight section of the 1994 Cannes Film Festival, and was screened at the Edinburgh Film Festival. The film was selected as the Indian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 67th Academy Awards, but was not accepted as a nominee.
Bhind, 1968 Phoolan is married to a twenty-something fellow called Puttilal (Aditya Shrivastava). Though child marriages are customary during that time, Phoolan's mother Moola (Savitri Raekwar) objects to the timing of the match. Phoolan's aging father Devideen (Ram Charan Nirmalker) conforming to his culture, regrettably disagrees, and Phoolan is sent off with Puttilal.
Bandit Queen were a three-piece indie rock band from Manchester, England, formed in 1992. They disbanded in 1998 after releasing one album.
The band was formed by former music journalist and member of Swirl, Tracy Godding (vocals, guitar), along with fellow former Swirl members Janet Wolstenholme (bass guitar) and David Galley (drums), with the band name inspired by Phoolan Devi. Godding explained "I was just inspired by her endurance".
The band were signed by Playtime Records, who issued all of their releases, with their second EP and debut album also issued in the US by Mammoth Records, although the latter had one track removed for the US release, the band speculating that this may have been due to it "having the word 'cunt' in it 32 times".
Debut album Hormone Hotel was produced by Pat Collier and John Robb, and featured a picture of one of the band's key influences on its cover, Frida Kahlo. The band recorded a second album in 1997, co -produced by the band and Mark Freegard, but it wasn't released and the band split and went their own ways in 1998.

Promoe (Mårten Edh, born Nils Mårten Ed, 28 April 1976) is a Swedish rapper, and member of Swedish hip hop group Looptroop Rockers, formed in Västerås, Sweden, 1992. He released his fourth album in 2009 entitled Kråksången, and later the same year followed up with the mixtape Bondfångeri. Promoe has a background of graffiti-writing and many of his songs deal with graffiti.
Promoe released his third album in 2006, entitled White Man's Burden. This was followed with a DVD titled Standard Bearer, which includes a documentary about the development of White Man's Burden and a concert from Copenhagen.
In 2006 the German rapper Kool Savas released a diss track in which he slighted Promoe among other German and international artists. Promoe's response was the song "Sag Was" which he posted on premier German hip hop site rap.de, and was also released on a 7" LP and also on the CD of Standard Bearer in 2007. It has gone as yet without answer.
Promoe has been featured on many tracks with both Swedish and international artists. The song "These Walls Don't Lie", produced by DJ Large and mixed by Soundism, used a sample from Hugo Montenegro's "Classical Gas", which had already been known for its use in "Mama" by late New York based rapper Big Punisher.
Ey yo bust it:
When the police come yo she ready for whatever
Never talk to the cops cus she got her mind together
A down to earth mother earth living at the speed of life
she don't need a ring to be my wife
a truly independent woman, not a destiny's child
not depending on money or fashion to have style
she got nuff style - rough style - diamond in the ruff
not a dimepiece in the back, she a diamond in the front
... seat by my side ready to ride
with a smile on her face when she let me inside
what is this? I need a gangsta bitch, I need love
I need a ride or die bitch? None of the above
I need a terrorist chick taking care of this dick
Ain't nothing superficial like marriage and shit
A truly holy matrimony, she my homie
I forget about this evil world when she hold me...
She love love like I do
She need sex like I do
She love freedom like I do
She need music like I do
I need a bandit queen (a bandit queen)
a real woman that can bring out the man in me
I said a bandit queen (a bandit queen)
independent enough so she can handle me
Ey yo a bandit queen (yes a bandit queen)
she the mother of humanity
I need a bandit queen (a bandit queen)
She look good but she not into vanity
I need a riot girl, not a violent girl
but one that knows how to defend herself when they try to quiet her
in this manmade era of gangrapes and terror
where most men can't face the mirror
she overcome cus she positive
she live in love and she love to live
she love to give and love to take
she don't compete cus she above the fake
she don't deal with no silly silicone
even when I'm not with her, I don't really feel alone
cus there's a metaphysical bond between us
strong as my penis want the venus
I need the butts and no maybes
I see some ladies tonight that should be having my babies
you know what I mean?
Wanna roll with my team, well you know what I need
I need a bandit queen (a bandit queen)
independent enough so she can handle me
I said a bandit queen (a bandit queen)
a real woman that can bring out the man in me
Ey yo a bandit queen (where are you?)
She look good but she not into vanity
I need a bandit queen (a bandit queen)
she the mother of humanity
I need a bandit queen, but man it seems
that the whole world is living in some candy dream
they want a plastic screen - not flesh and blood
they want some bad machine - not blessed love
they're stressed enough of ulcers and bloodclouts
grey hairs and great fears of what nots
I feel alone in this cold world
but out of 5 billion people there should be a soulgirl
my soulmate not afraid to hold weight
baby your soulfood I love it homemade
the way you stir it up I ain't coming home late
your recipe is so tasty - give me the whole plate!
She love love like I do
She need sex like I do
She love freedom like I do
She need music like I do
I need a bandit queen (a bandit queen)
independent enough so she can handle me
I said a bandit queen (a bandit queen)
a real woman that can bring out the man in me
I need a bandit queen (where are you?)
Hey she ain't living in no fantasy
I need a bandit queen (yo a bandit queen)
yeah it's pulling me in like gravity
