Bakhtiyarpur is a city and a notified area in Patna district in the state of Bihar, India. "'Bakhtiyarpur"' is under the Patna Sahib (Lok Sabha constituency). It is also a vidhan shabha constituency of bihar in Patna District under the Barh sub-division of Bihar state. It is the major railway station in Danapur railway division. In 1193 when Ikhtiyar ad-Din Muhammad bin Bakhtiyar Khilji was on conquest of Bihar, he came to dsetroy Nalanda University. On en-route he destroyed Buddhist monastries of Bakhtiyarpur, and muslim soldiers he left there named place Bakhtiarpur. Later on he destroyed the Odantpuri in Vihar Shree Bihar sharif and Nalanda University. Bakhtiyarpur is major junction of ECR. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar belongs to Bakhtiyarpur. Native village in kalyan bigha Harnaut of Nalanda district.

Bakhtiyarpur has an average literacy rate of 53%, lower than the national average of 59.5%; with 63% of the males and 37% of females literate. About 18% of the population is under 6 years of age.
