Bagnan is a census town in Howrah district in the state of West Bengal, in eastern India. It has one of the busiest railway stations in South Eastern Railway Zone within West Bengal.
Bagnan is located at 22°28′N 87°58′E / 22.47°N 87.97°E / 22.47; 87.97. It has an average elevation of 6 metres (19 feet). It is situated between two rivers, the Damodar and the Rupnarayan.
As of 2001 India census, Bagnan had a population of 8,779. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Bagnan has an average literacy rate of 68%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 55% of the males and 45% of females literate. 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.
As in many other places in West Bengal, Foot Ball and Cricket are the most popular of all sports. Foot Ball is not played with its ideal way in many places, they use a synthetic ball, popularly known as power ball which is much lighter than original Foot Ball and is played in shorter ground. Power Ball tournaments are very popular sporting event in Bagnan. Harop Seven Brothers Club is well known and one of the oldest club to organise Power ball tournament since 1993. Local Schools and Clubs sometimes arrange multiple sporting events which include athletics, Kho Kho etc.
Bagnan (Vidhan Sabha constituency) is an assembly constituency in Howrah district in the Indian state of West Bengal.
As per orders of the Delimitation Commission, No. 180 Bagnan (Vidhan Sabha constituency) is composed of the following: Bagnan II community development block, and Bagnan I, Bagnan II, Bangalpur, Haturia I, Haturia II and Khalore gram panchayats of Bagnan I community development block.
Bagnan (Vidhan Sabha constituency) is part of No. 26 Uluberia (Lok Sabha constituency).

In the 2006 state assembly elections, Akkel Ali Khan of CPI(M) won the Bagnan assembly seat, defeating his nearest rival Arup Roy of Trinamool Congress. Contests in most years were multi cornered but only winners and runners are being mentioned. Nirupama Chatterjee of CPI(M) defeated Sabuj Dutta of Trinamool Congress in 2001. Sabuj Dutta of Congress defeated Nirupama Chatterjee of CPI(M) in 1996.Nirupama Chatterjee of CPI(M) defeated Sanat Kumar Misra of Congress in 1991, and Susanta Bhattacharjee of Congress in 1987, 1982 and 1977.
