  • Bacon (name)

Bacon is a Norman French surname originally from Normandy and England. In early sources, it also appears as "Bachun" and "Bacun".

    Etymology

Its etymology is uncertain, with Charnock favoring a derivation from a diminutive of Germanic bach ("little stream, creek") and others from an eponymous seigniory in Normandy or from a corruption of Beacon. It is sometimes folk etymologized from bacon or Germanic bag ("to fight").

    List

Notable bearers of this surname include:

  • Albion Fellows Bacon (1865–1933), American reformer and writer
  • Anthony Bacon (1796–1864), British cavalry officer during the Napoleonic wars
  • Anthony Bacon (1718–1786), English industrialist
  • Augustus Octavius Bacon (1839–1914), American politician
  • Benjamin Wisner Bacon (1860–1932), American theologian
  • David Bacon (disambiguation), several people
  • Don Bacon, American baseball manager
  • Don Bacon, U.S. Air Force brigadier general
  • Edmund Bacon (1910–2005), American urban planner
  • Edward Denny Bacon (1860–1938), British philatelist and curator (1913–1938) of the Royal Philatelic Collection
  • Email spam

Email spam, also known as junk email or unsolicited bulk email (UBE), is a subset of electronic spam involving nearly identical messages sent to numerous recipients by email. The messages may contain disguised links that appear to be for familiar websites but in fact lead to phishing web sites or sites that are hosting malware. Spam email may also include malware as scripts or other executable file attachments. Definitions of spam usually include the aspects that email is unsolicited and sent in bulk. One subset of UBE is UCE (unsolicited commercial email). The opposite of "spam", email which one wants, is sometimes called "ham". Like other forms of unwanted bulk messaging, it is named for Spam luncheon meat by way of a Monty Python sketch in which Spam is depicted as ubiquitous and unavoidable.

Email spam has steadily grown since the early 1990s. Botnets, networks of virus-infected computers, are used to send about 80% of spam. Since the expense of the spam is borne mostly by the recipient, it is effectively postage due advertising.

    Fat

Fat is one of the three main macronutrients: fat, carbohydrate, and protein. Fats, also known as triglycerides, are esters of three fatty acid chains and the alcohol glycerol.

The terms "oil", "fat", and "lipid" are often confused. "Oil" normally refers to a fat with short or unsaturated fatty acid chains that is liquid at room temperature, while "fat" may specifically refer to fats that are solids at room temperature. "Lipid" is the general term, as a lipid is not necessarily a triglyceride. Fats, like other lipids, are generally hydrophobic, and are soluble in organic solvents and insoluble in water.

Fat is an important foodstuff for many forms of life, and fats serve both structural and metabolic functions. They are necessary part of the diet of most heterotrophs (including humans). Some fatty acids that are set free by the digestion of fats are called essential because they cannot be synthesized in the body from simpler constituents. There are two essential fatty acids (EFAs) in human nutrition: alpha-linolenic acid (an omega-3 fatty acid) and linoleic acid (an omega-6 fatty acid).[2][3] Other lipids needed by the body can be synthesized from these and other fats. Fats and other lipids are broken down in the body by enzymes called lipases produced in the pancreas.

    Fat (disambiguation)

Fat is a group of compounds that are generally soluble in organic solvents and largely insoluble in water. Another common meaning is a person or animal afflicted with obesity.

Fat or FAT may also refer to:

    Biology

  • Adipose tissue, body fat
  • FAT (gene), protocadherin Fat 1, a protein that in humans is encoded by the FAT1 gene
  • Fatty acid translocase, also known as CD36

  • Fat (novel), by Rob Grant
  • "Fat", a short story by Raymond Carver from the collection Will You Please Be Quiet, Please?
  • Acronyms and initialisms

  • Forces Armées Tchadiennes, the armed forces of the country of Chad
  • Fat (EP)

The Fat EP is an EP by the American punk rock band the Descendents, released in 1981 through New Alliance Records. It was the band's first recording with singer Milo Aukerman and established their presence in the southern California hardcore punk movement, with short, aggressive songs that represented a shift in style from their previous new wave and surf sound. The EP was re-released in later years as part of several compilation albums.

    Background

The Descendents' initial recording lineup of guitarist Frank Navetta, bassist Tony Lombardo, and drummer Bill Stevenson released the band's 1979 debut single "Ride the Wild" / "It's a Hectic World", with a sound that blended Devo-like new wave and Dick Dale-style surf music. Stevenson sold copies of the single to fellow students at Mira Costa High School, attracting the attention of classmate Milo Aukerman, who began attending the band's practices regularly. Aukerman soon became the band's lead singer after jumping in to sing with them at practice.

    by: Willy Deville

    Williams-Brown
While I was down in Tennessee,
All my friends were glad to see me.
Seen some down by the railroad tracks,
Seen some cotton pickers with sacks on thier backs.
They said:"Hey Man, glad to see you back
We got a new thing they call the Bacon Fat."
    Lickety, lickety, lickety, lickety, womp.
Then I went down to see my local D.J.
His name is Cane and he lives down Tennessee way.
I said:"Hey Man, what's this new kind of junck,
Were you tie off once and you end up with a bump."
He said:"Hey big daddy, it's just a natural fact-
It's sweeping the South this thing the Bacon Fat."
