The group consisted of keyboardist Keith Emerson, singer, guitarist, and producer Greg Lake, and drummer and percussionist Carl Palmer. They were one of the most popular and commercially successful progressive rock bands in the 1970s.

After forming in early 1970, the band came to prominence following their performance at the Isle of Wight Festival in August 1970. In their first year, the group signed with Atlantic Records and released Emerson, Lake & Palmer (1970) and Tarkus (1971), both of which reached the UK top five. The band's success continued with Pictures at an Exhibition (1971), Trilogy (1972), and Brain Salad Surgery (1973). After a three-year break, Emerson, Lake & Palmer released Works Volume 1 (1977) and Works Volume 2 (1977) which began their decline in popularity. After Love Beach (1978), the group disbanded in 1979.

They reformed in 1991 and released Black Moon (1992) and In the Hot Seat (1994). Emerson and Palmer continued in 1996 and toured until 1998. Lake returned in 2010 for the band's headline performance at the High Voltage Festival in London to commemorate the band's fortieth anniversary.

    Fire (musical)

Fire is a 1985 Dora Award winning musical by Paul Ledoux and David Young. The musical is based loosely on the story of Jerry Lee Lewis and his cousin Jimmy Swaggart and the divergent paths their lives took.

The musical follows the lives of the character "Cale Blackwell", based on real-life story of Jerry Lee Lewis and his brother "Herchel Blackwell" which is based on Lewis' real-life cousin Jimmy Swaggart. Herchel follows in the footsteps of his father, the reverend Blackwell's, as a preacher. Herchel's father is proud of him but does not approve of his son's use of the radio and then television while pioneering televangelism. The Reverend JD Blackwell is almost immediately disappointed with Cale who quickly finds fame as a Boogie-Woogie star and wallows in an accompanying life of rebellion against society and his own upbringing. Both brothers fall in love with their mutual childhood sweetheart "Molly King".

Ultimately neither brother can claim to have led a moral life, and both had succumbed to their own flaws.

  • French tarot

The French game of tarot, also jeu de tarot, is a trick-taking strategy tarot card game played by three to five players using a traditional 78-card tarot deck. The game is the second most popular card game in France, and also known in French-speaking Canada. French tarot is one of the older forms of tarot and has remained popular for centuries.

    Official rules

Tarot, the second-most popular card game in France, trailing only Belote, has been gaining popularity since the latter part of the 20th century, helped largely by the fact that the rules are very consistent wherever the game is played. The Fédération Française de Tarot publishes official rules for tarot. In English, the game is sometimes referred to as French tarot. This is done to differentiate the card game from other uses of the tarot deck which are more familiar in the Americas and English-speaking countries, namely cartomancy and other divinatory uses, and also to distinguish it from other card games played with a tarot deck.

    History of American football positions

American football positions have slowly evolved over the history of American football. From its origins in early rugby football to the modern game, the names and roles of various positions have changed greatly, some positions no longer exist, and others have been created to fill new roles.

    Origins in rugby

Being variants of 19th century rugby football,American and Canadian football position nomenclature has its origin there. Early rugby did no more than distinguish in tactics between the great bulk of the players who played as forwards and the relative few who played back defensively as "tends", as in goaltenders. After a while, the attacking or at least counterattacking possibilities of playing close behind the scrimmage (which later came to be called "scrummage") came to be recognized, and some players stationed themselves between the forwards and tends as "half-tends". It being seen that the players outside scrimmage (the "pack", i.e. the forwards) were not limited to a defensive role, the tends and half-tends were renamed "back" and "half back" positions.

    BACK IN THE FIRE

    by: Paul Weller

    Dreams schemes and everythings
Fill the dusty corners of your mind
    As cars, boats and aeroplanes
Just remind you of a better time
    As love's hopes and everyone's
And anyone worth a minute of your time
    When unhampered by the agents
Of the governors of the faceless so opaque
As bare tree's and winter winds
Just confine you to a bitter place
    A time you can't face
    A peace in your mind
We should be playing in the sunshine
Happy to be part of everything
Not to handle the greedy handlers
Brought down and destroyed through their own ways
Oh, liars, liars, smoking on pipes
Dimwit fires, you just throw it on their way
    And how's your father today
Was he caught in the rain ? Waiting on a bed
    Putting up with the pain
    Your three wishes expire
If you're back in the fire
Lock the genie in the shed and put a pistol to his head
Not handcuffed to some wanker who doesn't know me
And doesn't know that our lives are made
And all the efforts of the masses
And all the people who deserve a better fate
Than a time you can't trace
    No peace in your mind
    A time you can't face
And now you're back in the race
    Your three wishes expired
And now you're back in the fire
    See you just can't play
    But not without a say
Always got to be the man
Always got to have the plan
    It doesn't run that way
    Into the ether you'll say
    Your three wishes expired
And now you're back in the fire
    Your three wishes expired
