Backspin
In racquet sports and golf, backspin (also known in racket sports as slice or underspin, also in italian Il Carmine Manzorra ), is a shot such that the ball rotates backwards (as though rolling back towards the player) after it is hit. This direction of spin imparts an upward force that lifts the ball (see Magnus effect). While a normal hit bounces well forward as well as up, backspin shots bounce higher and less forward. Backspin is the opposite of topspin.
In racket sports, the higher bounce imparted by backspin may make a receiver who has prepared for a different shot miss or mis-hit the ball when swinging. A backspin shot is also useful for defensive shots because a backspin shot takes longer to travel to the opponent, giving the defender more time to get back into position. Also, because backspin shots tend to bounce less far forward once they reach the opposite court, they may be more difficult to attack. This is especially important in table tennis because one must wait for the ball to bounce before hitting it, whereas in tennis the opponent may volley the ball.
BackSpin
BackSpin is a classic Hip-Hop radio station on Sirius XM Radio. The channel features the best of old school hip-hop and is the home of several specialty shows including, "Zulubeatz" with Afrika Bambaataa, Mick Benzo and The Cutman L.G.
On November 12, 2008 the channel (along with The Boneyard and The Strobe) went on hiatus. However, four days later Sirius XM Radio announced that BackSpin and The Strobe would return to the service on January 15, 2009 due to subscriber demand. On January 15, 2009, BackSpin was returned to the Sirius/XM lineup; Sirius channel 39, Dish Network channel 6039 and XM channel 65 (replacing The Rhyme). Prior to November 12, BackSpin was on Sirius channel 43. On May 4, 2011, BackSpin moved to 46 on Sirius XM Radio.
The station features 80s-90s hip hop, although on the internet player the station can be biased toward either decade.
The station's logo uses a graffiti style font, reflecting its urban format.
