Baar (reality TV)

Baar was the Estonian version of the reality television series The Bar. The show aired for two seasons between 2004 and 2005 on Kanal 2.

It led to the establishment of several celebrities, including two later politicians — Paavo Pärn and Talis Kitsing from Estonian Reform Party. Another politician, Sirje Kingsepp from Estonian Left Party participated in the show.

Setting

The programm was set on a pub (previously known as R.I.F.F., referred to in the show as "Baar") and an apartment in the town centre of Tallinn; participants' task was to run the pub and live together in the apartment.

Reality television

Reality television is a genre of television programming that documents ostensibly unscripted real-life situations, and often features an otherwise unknown cast of individuals who are typically not professional actors, although in some shows celebrities may participate. It differs from documentary television in that the focus tends to be on drama, personal conflict, and entertainment rather than educating viewers. Reality TV programs also often bring participants into situations and environments that they would otherwise never be a part of. The genre has various standard tropes, including "confessionals" used by cast members to express their thoughts, which often double as the shows' narration and competitive elements. Reality TV shows often have a host who asks questions to the participants or comments on the participants. In competition-based reality shows, a notable subset, there are other common elements such as one participant being eliminated per episode, a panel of judges, and the concept of "immunity from elimination."

Zone Reality

Zone Reality (formerly Reality TV) was a European reality television channel.

Zone Reality broadcast in both analogue and digital to over 120 million viewers throughout Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America.

The channel launched on the Sky EPG in the UK on October 10, 2002 and was then called Reality TV.

In February 2006, an additional channel called Reality Extra was launched.

In 2006 the channel's owner, Zone Vision, decided to put all their channels under the unified "Zone" brand. Reality TV became Zone Reality and Reality Extra became Zone Reality Extra on June 26, 2006.

Zone Reality Extra was closed down and replaced by Zone Horror +1 on July 1, 2008.

On 14 September 2009, it was revealed that the international arm of CBS struck a joint venture deal with Chellomedia to launch Six CBS-branded channels in the UK during 2009. The new channels replaced Zone Romantica, Zone Thriller, Zone Horror and Zone Reality, plus timeshift services Zone Horror +1 and Zone Reality +1. However, the new CBS prefix in the channel name would not be used in other countries than the UK for the time being. On 1 October 2009, it was announced that CBS Reality, CBS Reality +1, CBS Drama and CBS Action would launch on 16 November 2009 replacing Zone Reality, Zone Reality +1, Zone Romantica and Zone Thriller in the UK. Zone Horror and its +1 were rebranded into the 'Horror Channel'.

Baar is a municipality in the canton of Zug in Switzerland.

History

Baar is first mentioned in 1045 as Barra.

Geography

Baar has an area, as of 2006, of 24.8 km² (9.6 sq mi). Of this area, 55% is used for agricultural purposes, while 24.5% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 19.9% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (0.6%) is non-productive (rivers, glaciers or mountains).

The municipality is located in the northern portion of the flood plain of the Lorze river. It was originally a linear village along the road between Lake Zug and Lake Zurich. Since the 1960s it has grown rapidly. It consists of the village of Baar and the former hamlets of Allenwinden, Blickensdorf and Inwil, as well as the farm houses of Deinikon.

Demographics

Baar has a population (as of 31 December 2014) of 23,228.As of 2007, 24.9% of the population was made up of foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years, the population has grown at a rate of 20.9%. Most of the population (as of 2000) speaks German (83.1%), with Italian being second most common (3.6%) and Serbo-Croatian being third (3.1%).

Baar (region)

The Baar is a plateau that lies 600 to 900 metres above sea level in southwest Germany. It is bordered by the southeastern edge of the Black Forest to the west, the southwestern part of the Swabian Alb known as the Heuberg to the east, and the Randen mountain to the south.

The Baar contains the source of the Neckar (a bog in Villingen-Schwenningen) and the Danube. The sources of the Danube, the Brigach and Breg, originate in Furtwangen im Schwarzwald and Sankt Georgen im Schwarzwald and join the smaller Donaubach in Donaueschingen.

The coldest point in Germany is also located at Donaueschingen in a low cold air basin which experiences its first frost as early as September 20 on average, earlier than the surrounding Black Forest.

Landscape

The Baar is composed of several types of landscape. In the west is Baarschwarzwald (the Black Forest), in the center Baarhochmulde (a marshy area), in the south the Wutachland around the Wutach river, and in the east the Baaralb, a low area with buttes of the Swabian Alb like the Hohenkarpfen and the Lupfen, which is the highest point in the Baar at 977 metres.

Reality (Monk Montgomery album)

Reality is a 1974 album by jazz bassist Monk Montgomery, one of his four solo albums. It was released on Philadelphia International Records.
