BVP M-80

The BVP M-80, is a full tracked Yugoslavian made infantry fighting vehicle, produced from the 1980s until the country's collapse in the 1990s.

Development

Early research and development of the M-80 began in 1969, with testing of the first completed prototype in 1974. First examples of the BVP M-80 rolled out in 1979 but full entry to service happened in 1982. An upgraded model was unveiled a year after with a designation M-80A. This variant had a more powerful engine and somewhat better armor. Around 800 vehicles were produced before the breakup of the country.

The first production variant was the M-80 which was only made in small numbers. The vehicle used a French built engine with an output of 260 hp, the same engine as used in AMX-10P. After only a year, Yugoslavia started license production of Daimler-Benz's 320 hp engine in domestic FAMOS factories. This variant received a new designation as M-80A.

At the time it was produced, M-80A had similar characteristics with existing IFVs like Russian BMP-1 or French AMX 10P. Although many foreign experts compare M-80A with Russian BMP-1, the Yugoslav IFV is a true original design. Unlike the BMP-1 which had 6 support wheels and was armed with 73 mm gun, M-80A had 5 support wheels and had 20 mm gun. M-80A incorporates numerous elements from the newer BMP-2 and the French AMX-10P giving it more power and better protection over its counterpart. All M-80As are amphibious and are equipped with twin AT-3 launchers.

M-80 is a punk band formed in Rhode Island, July 1999. The original line-up was Jeff Hanks (Guitar) and Dave Ladin (Vocals/Guitar) from the Rhode Island Ska/Punk band Racketball and Christian Blaney (Vocals/Bass) and Paul Sumner (Drums) of the local Rhode Island hardcore/punk band Arson Family. In 2002 Paul Sumner was replaced by Brian Bacon on drums. Brian was also a former member of Racketball. In 2003 Dave Ladin left M-80 to form Badfish: A Tribute to Sublime. At that point Jonny Safford stepped in as the new singer and lead guitar player. In that same year, they played on the Warped Tour and had a licensing deal with Fox Broadcasting Company. They also secured a sponsorship from Budweiser beer. Later in 2003 the M-80 track "Fight You For No Reason" appeared on the CD Future Icons put out by Atlantic Records which was given away free with an issue of Blender Magazine.

In 2004, founding member Christian Blaney left M-80 and the band broke up. They reunited in November 2009. The current line-up is Jeff Hanks, Christian Blaney, Jonny Safford and Paul Sumner.

M-80 (Michigan highway)

M-80 is a state trunkline highway in the Upper Peninsula of the US state of Michigan. It runs from Kinross to M-129 near Donaldson. The highway serves the site of the former Kincheloe Air Force Base and the current Chippewa County International Airport. The designation has been used twice before on roads in the Lower Peninsula in the 1910s through 1930s while the current usage dates back to the mid-1990s.

Route description

M-80 starts at exit 378 along Interstate 75 (I-75) near Kinross. A short section of it runs concurrently with H-63 (Mackinac Trail) to connect to ramps in the interchange. This section runs northeast–southwest across the freeway from Mud Lake before the M-80 designation turns southeasterly along Tone Road running past Kinross Lake in a forested area. Tone Road curves sharply northeasterly and then southeasterly to run around the north end of the runway complex at the Chippewa County International Airport. The highway runs due east past the airport terminal area to the south and a prison and the residential area of the former Kincheloe Air Force Base to the north. Near Dukes Lake, M-80 crosses Gaines Highway and leaves the former base and runs through forest to the intersection with M-129 where M-80 terminates. The roadway continues eastward as 17 Mile Road in Pickford Township.
