BMW 6 Series

The BMW 6 Series is a series of luxury grand tourers produced by the German automaker BMW.

The first was the E24, being derived from the first generation 7 Series, the BMW E23. The E24 was launched in 1976 to replace the 3.0CS & 3.0CSi (E9). In 2003, 14 years after production ceased, BMW released the all new E63/E64 which was available as a coupé and convertible, based on the chassis of the E60 5 Series sedan. Models were the 645Ci (later replaced with the 650i) and the 630i, while the highest performance model is the BMW M6. The third generation F12 and F13 6 series was released in 2011 for the 2012 model year, sharing a platform and some engines with the 7 Series (F01) and 5 Series (F10), and introducing a four-door coupé (fastback sedan) style, known as Gran Coupé.

The BMW 8 series is sometimes regarded as the spiritual successor to the E24 6 Series, being also available as a "CSi", however it had a substantially higher price point and performance than the preceding 6 Series.

BMW 6 Series (E63)

The BMW E63/E64 6 Series is the chassis designation for the second generation BMW 6 Series. The BMW E63/E64 replaced the BMW E24 6 Series 14 years after production had ended, whilst adding a convertible to the lineup. The BMW E63/E64 6 Series uses a shortened chassis from the BMW E60 5 Series (which formed the fifth generation BMW 5 Series), and shares similar functions including the BMW iDrive. The BMW E63/E64 6 Series' design was based on the BMW Z9 Concept, whose exterior was redesigned by Adrian Van Hooydonk, whilst David Carp designed the interior of the car. The BMW E63/E64 6 Series was introduced in autumn of 2003 in the Frankfurt Auto Show, and premiered in the North American Auto Show.

The development process of the BMW E63/E64 6 Series was documented in a three-part documentary by the Discovery Channel Canada Series named Birth of a Sports Car. The three episodes were organised from design, testing and production respectively.

630C/i and 635d models were not sold in America, and were only sold in Europe and other parts of the world, whilst all 645Ci and 650i models were available to all. Production started on 18 March 2004 and ended on July 31, 2010, being replaced by the 2011 BMW F06/F12/F13 6 Series, whilst adding a four-door coupe called the Gran Coupe to the lineup.

BMW 6 Series (F06/F12/F13)

The BMW F06/F12/F13 6 Series is a grand tourer/executive coupe automobile manufactured by BMW. BMW unveiled information and pictures in September 2010 of the Concept 6 Series, which was introduced at the 2010 Paris Motor Show.

Initial release

The third generation BMW F13 (coupé) and F12 (convertible) were released for the 2012 model year at the 2011 Shanghai Auto Show and New York Auto Show.

Early 6 Series Coupe models include 640i, 650i. 640d, 650i xDrive were later added.

6 Series Convertible was unveiled in 2011 BMW 2011 North American International Auto Show. Early US model include 650i. 640i was also available.

European models of 6 Series Coupe (640i xDrive, 650i xDrive, 640d xDrive), 6 Series Convertible (640i xDrive, 650i xDrive, 640d) were unveiled in 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.

BMW revealed the 6-Series Convertible on 18 November 2010. The folding top is still cloth as compared to the E93 3 Series convertible which is equipped with a metal roof. On 13 March 2011, BMW released pictures and details about the Coupe.
