BAMMA

BAMMA is a mixed martial arts promotion based in the United Kingdom. It is considered by many as the biggest MMA promotion in Europe. It premiered on June 27, 2009 and was shown on the television channel Bravo. BAMMA events are now shown live on Spike (UK) Channel 5 in the UK and Ireland, ESPN 3 in the US, The Fight Network in Canada, TV Esporte Interativo in Brazil, KIX in Asia, Red Media in Russia, Setanta in Africa, TDN in Latin America. Currently BAMMA events stream live on Lonsdale Facebook Page (Prelims) and Spike (UK) & Channel 5 (UK) (Main Card)

History

BAMMA held its first event in London on June 27, 2009. BAMMA 1: The Fighting Premiership was held in a tournament format, with two semi-finals taking place in the Lightweight, Welterweight and Middleweight divisions. The semi-final winners progressed to the final, which is to take place at a later date. Their next event, BAMMA 2: Roundhouses at the Roundhouse, was held at The Roundhouse and saw BAMMA's first champions crowned. Rob Sinclair defeated Nathan Beer to become the Lightweight Champion, and Alan Omer got the better of Paul Reed for the Featherweight Championship.

Alex Reid (fighter)

Alexander Aristides "Alex" Reid (born 21 July 1975) is an English mixed martial artist, kickboxer, and actor. He has fought for Cage Rage, BAMMA and UCMMA. Throughout his MMA career he has fought some of the best known fighters, especially from the earlier days of the UFC, such as former welterweight champion Dave Menne and UFC 14 middleweight finalist Tony Fryklund, he has also faced Murilo Rua, Tom Watson, Xavier Foupa-Pokam, Chris Wotton, Mark Weir, and Jorge Rivera.

Early life

Reid was born in Aldershot, Hampshire, the son of Bob and Carol Reid. He is the youngest of six siblings. He is of Scottish descent on his father's side.

In 1991, Reid was a member of the Hampshire Scout unit that was visiting Japan and South Korea, taking part in the 17th World Scout Jamboree at Mount Sorak National Park. In 1996, Reid enlisted with 10th (Volunteer) Battalion of the Parachute Regiment (10 PARA), a Territorial Army unit based in London, and spent three years training as a recruit before being discharged.
