Ayroor
Ayroor (sometimes Spelt as Ayiroor (Malayalam:അയിരൂര് )) is a village situated on the western part of Ranni Taluk of Pathanamthitta District in Kerala state, India. Formerly, Ayroor was part of Tiruvalla Taluk in Alleppey District and is considered as part of Edanadu in Kerala. The Pamba River flows by the southern side of this scenic village and makes soil around the village very fertile. Ayroor village used to be a part of the erstwhile Travancore kingdom. It is believed that the Thekencore kingdom's Kovilans ruled Ayroor in the past. The Kovilans brought a Christian family from the north as they believed that the kingdom will become prosperous with the presence of Christians. The descendants of this family is still present in Ayroor and is known as the Ayyakkavil family. It is also the Kathakali village of Kerala.
The Pamba river and the surrounding hills make Ayroor one of the most picturesque places in central Travancore. Residents of Ayroor cultivate Coconut, Rubber, Cocoa, Tapioca, Plantain, Cinnamon, Pepper, Nutmeg, Vanilla, Rambutan and other crops. So the per capita income of the residents is considerably above the state average.
