Avalon: The Legend Lives

Avalon: The Legend Lives is a text-based online multi-player role-playing game world that was first released on 28 October 1989 at the gaming convention Adventure 89. Its has maintained a continuous on-line presence with consistent and intact persona files and player history since the late 1980s, rendering it the longest-running online roleplaying game in history.

While it follows closely in the tradition of many early Multi-User Dungeons, it was Avalon that pioneered many features that have since become signature components of the role-playing game genre: real economies, distinct ecosystems and weather effects, gods with followers and priests, player housing and autonomous governments, skill-based real time PVP combat, and a fully realized warfare conquest system as well as pioneering plotted quests rather than the standard puzzle or treasure dash systems seen in first generations MUD's and MUA.

Within Avalon, players are offered the opportunity to "live another life"; to fully immerse themselves in the gameworld—a world of merchants, thieves, princes, gods, dragons, and more. It was the first game of its—or any—kind with its own history and narrative that was decided by the players themselves.

Avalon (Swedish group)

Avalon or Group Avalon was a band consisting of Djo Moupondo (aka as DJ Djo) and his brother Mohombi Moupondo with Congolese ancestry. A multilingual band, they performed songs in Swedish, French, English and Lingala. Mohombi has gone on to create a successful international solo career signing with RedOne.

Career

Djo and Mohombi born to a Congolese father and a Swedish mother were raised in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. In 1999, the family escaped the war-torn country for Stockholm, Sweden in 1999. The parents regularly exposed them to varied musical influences. Djo became a well-known DJ in local clubs and Mohombi studied at Rytmus Music High School in Stockholm and eventually obtaining his bachelor's degree in music and song from Stockholm’s Royal College of Music, the Stockholm conservatory.

They played music together for many years touring African and European countries, including forming the group Avalon, combining the dancehall and hip hop of the time with the distinctive African beats on which they were raised. From 2004 to 2008 the group sold over half a million records. It won the Best Diaspora Europe/Caribbean Group award at the All African Kora Awards, an African equivalent of Grammy awards.

Absolute are a music production team responsible for a number of hits in the 1990s and first decade of the 21st century.

History

Absolute was formed in 1988 by Paul Wilson and Andy Watkins after they met at university and decided to pursue a career in music. Initially, they remixed under the name of Bristol Baseline Productions including remixes for Biz Markie, Everything but the Girl and The Chimes. Their radical remix of "Take Me" by Everything but the Girl in 1989 is documented to have inspired Massive Attack to work with Tracey Thorn which lead to the writing of the track "Protection". In 1991 they changed their name to Absolute. Absolute was originally a band project with the release of two singles: "Don't You Wanna Be Mine" (1991) and "Introduce Me to Love" (1992) on Rhythm King Records. The latter featured the vocals of John Paul Barrett. Watkins and Wilson, without Barrett, then ventured into the world of dance remixing. After achieving critical acclaim for their work on artists such as Lisa Stansfield, Melanie Williams the Nightcrawlers, Mica Paris, James Taylor Quartet and Al Green, the pair were approached by Pete Evans of Big Life Management for management. Evans himself was considering branching out on his own and, with the help of Simon Fuller, formed Native Management with Absolute as his initial signing. Tracey Ackerman joined the songwriting duo in the late 1990s as a regular songwriting partner.

Cayley–Klein metric

In mathematics, a Cayley–Klein metric is a metric on the complement of a fixed quadric in a projective space is defined using a cross-ratio. The construction originated with Arthur Cayley's essay "On the theory of distance" where he calls the quadric the absolute. The construction was developed in further detail by Felix Klein in papers in 1871 and 1873, and in his book Vorlesungen über Nicht-Euklidischen Geometrie(1928). The Cayley–Klein metrics are a unifying idea in geometry since the method is used to provide metrics in hyperbolic geometry, elliptic geometry, and Euclidean geometry. The field of non-Euclidean geometry rests largely on the footing provided by Cayley–Klein metrics.

Absolute zero

Absolute zero is the lower limit of the thermodynamic temperature scale, a state at which the enthalpy and entropy of a cooled ideal gas reaches its minimum value, taken as 0. The theoretical temperature is determined by extrapolating the ideal gas law; by international agreement, absolute zero is taken as −273.15° on the Celsius scale (International System of Units), which equates to −459.67° on the Fahrenheit scale (United States customary units or Imperial units). The corresponding Kelvin and Rankine temperature scales set their zero points at absolute zero by definition.

It is commonly thought of as the lowest temperature possible, but it is not the lowest enthalpy state possible, because all real substances begin to depart from the ideal gas when cooled as they approach the change of state to liquid, and then to solid; and the sum of the enthalpy of vaporization (gas to liquid) and enthalpy of fusion (liquid to solid) exceeds the ideal gas's change in enthalpy to absolute zero. In the quantum-mechanical description, matter (solid) at absolute zero is in its ground state, the point of lowest internal energy.
