Devo

Devo (/ˈdiːvoʊ/, originally /diːˈvoʊ/) is an American rock band formed in 1972, consisting of members from Kent and Akron, Ohio. The classic line-up of the band included two sets of brothers, the Mothersbaughs (Mark and Bob) and the Casales (Gerald and Bob), along with Alan Myers. The band had a No. 14 Billboard chart hit in 1980 with the single "Whip It", and has maintained a cult following throughout its existence.

Devo's style, over time, has shifted between punk rock, art rock, post-punk and new wave. Their music and stage show mingle kitsch science fiction themes, deadpan surrealist humor, and mordantly satirical social commentary. Their often discordant pop songs feature unusual synthetic instrumentation and time signatures that have proven influential on subsequent popular music, particularly new wave, industrial and alternative rock artists. Devo was also a pioneer of the music video, creating many memorable clips for the LaserDisc format, with "Whip It" getting heavy airplay in the early days of MTV.

Devo 2.0

Devo 2.0 (also known as DEV2.O) was a quintet, created for Walt Disney Records (with the participation of Devo), of child actors who sing, dance, and (in their music videos and photo shoots) mime playing instruments along to songs re-recorded by some of the original members of Devo. Jerry Casale directed all nine of the videos. Actress Jacqueline Emerson, who later appeared in The Hunger Games, was a member. The band split up in 2007 when lead singer Nicole Stoehr and lead guitarist Nathan Norman quit.

Background

While the music on the album was written and recorded by DEVO and merely dubbed in over footage in which the four dancing children appear to be performing, some of the members are musicians. Devo 2.0 band member Nathan Norman states they do play their own instruments with mild help from sequencers.Mark Mothersbaugh said that the band re-recorded their own music due to budgetary restraints.

An eponymous DVD and CD combo was released March 14, 2006. Two new songs, "Cyclops" and "The Winner", were written by Devo for the album. In the summer of 2006 the band began a limited series of live performances, and also contributed a track, "Monkey's Uncle", to a compilation of re-recorded Disney songs called Disneymania 4.

In February 2012, the related company Uniregistrar Corporation became an ICANN-accredited registrar and launched under the licensed Uniregistry brand name in 2014.

History

Uniregistry Corporation was officially founded in 2012 by Frank Schilling, one of the largest private domain name portfolio owners in the world, and registered in the Cayman Islands. However, the domain Uniregistry.com was registered six years earlier and the company filed an intent to use the name in the Cayman Islands in 2010. Trademark applications for the "Uniregistry" mark and its stylized "U" logo were filed in 2012. That year, Schilling invested $60 million and applied for 54 new top-level domains. Uniregistrar Corporation became an ICANN-accredited registrar in February 2013. In January 2014, Uniregistry Inc. became a subsidiary in Newport Beach, California to house a West Coast service and support team. The registrar began operating under the licensed Uniregistry brand name in 2014. Uniregistry's registry infrastructure was designed by Internet Systems Consortium (ISC) and Uniregistry subsequently purchased its infrastructure in 2013.

Auto (company)

Aktieselskabet (A/S) Auto was a car dealer in Oslo (known as Kristiania until 1924), Norway.

It was founded in 1908 with Carl O. Nielsen as the first general manager. It had roots in his former company, C. O. Nielsens Automobilforretning. The company had a sales office in Kvadraturen (Tollbodgaten 20) and a workshop in Frogner (Lindemanns gate 9). It later expanded to incorporate other addresses in Lindemanns gate.

The company imported and sold Lorraine-Dietrich and Cottereau from the start, then also Isotta-Fraschini, Minerva and Thornycroft. During the First World War Dodge Brothers and Federal were added, during the interwar period Renault and De Dion-Bouton.

The company went defunct in 1930, amid the economic depression. The last manager was Carl Simonsen. Many of the car brands have also been discontinued.

Auto (play)

Auto is a subgenre of dramatic literature. It was a one-act morality play, interlude or skit. They were first found in Spain, in the 15th century. In Portugal, in the 16th century, Gil Vicente was the main author of this type of dramatic genre. Luís de Camões and Dom Francisco Manuel de Mello also adopted this form of writing.
