Aussie

Aussie is Australian slang for Australian and less commonly, Australia. Aussie can be used in the form of an adjective, noun, or proper noun.

Pronunciation

In Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada, United Kingdom, and Ireland, the word is pronounced /ˈɒzi/ OZ-ee (Australian English [ˈɔzi]), with a /z/ sound; however, in the United States, it is most often pronounced (incorrectly) /ˈɔːsi/ AW-see with an /s/ sound. Pronouncing the word with an /s/ in place of the /z/ is considered by Australians to be a canonically American error.

Ethnic usage

Aussie is used defensively by some Australians as a term of identification for people and as a nickname for the traditional cultural group (of Anglo-Celtic descent).

    History

The firm was founded as Aussie Home Loans on 17 February 1992 by owner and executive chairman John Symond. The company was unique in its approach to home loans, offering 24 hours a day service and lower interest than loans offered by banks. . In 1994 the firm introduced the securitisation of home loans, allowing them to offer loans upwards of 3% cheaper than its competitors. The company rapidly grew as consumers became aware of its products and banks were forced to copy its methods as their market share diminished. The company re-positioned itself as a mortgage broker in 2002, and introduced its own credit card shortly thereafter. In August 2008 the Commonwealth Bank acquired a 33% stake in Aussie.

    Aussie (shampoo)

Aussie is an international cosmetics brand. Its products are focused solely on hair care, such as shampoos, conditioners, hair serums, gels and sprays. It is marketed as a product of Australia due to its inclusion of certain natural ingredients found from the country itself. Thus, its logo is a kangaroo, and, similarly, its slogan is "Roo Your 'Do!". However, the brand is in fact manufactured by Procter & Gamble, an American company, which bought the brand in 2003. The brand was particularly successful in 2004, when P&G had US$55 billion in sales (the brand sales was unknown).

Aussie manufactures hair product collections for straight, wavy and curly hair to fix problems such as frizz, dryness, flat hair, and damaged hair. Aussie’s celebrity stylist is Sarah Potempa.

The product was sold in Australia prior to 1990, but was phased out during the 1990s and the product has been focused on the British and American markets.

    History

In 1979, Aussie was founded by Tom Redmond, an American businessman. Prior to this, he had more than 20 years of experience in the professional salon industry.

There'd be a blue out the back
And we'd all rush from the bar to take a look
    Drover Pat and Billy argued
Been drinkin in the heat all afternoon
They were rollin in the dirt, fists were flyin,
    Things were gettin rough,
    When billy stated bleedin,
the publican said fellas break it up
    chorus
    shake on it,
    just put it there
thats the way its always been round here
    you cantrust a man
when he held out is hand
and said lets shake on it
    they were battered and briused
when pat and billy picked themselves up
    they looked each other over
two friends appeared from behind the sweat and dust
billy picked up his hat and clipped his old man on the ear
and said we'll call it a draw pat,
but i reckon you owe me a beer
    chorus
now the years have rolled by
    and they still disagree
but that old handshakes as firm
    as it used to be
