Atlético Madrid

Club Atlético de Madrid, SAD (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈkluβ aðˈletiko ðe maˈðɾið]) commonly known as Atlético de Madrid, or simply as Atlético, is a Spanish professional football club based in Madrid, that plays in La Liga.

In terms of importance of titles and number of followers, Atlético Madrid is the third most successful club in Spanish football, behind Real Madrid and Barcelona. In terms of the number of titles, Atlético Madrid is the fourth most successful club in Spanish football, behind Real Madrid, Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao. Atlético have won La Liga on ten occasions, including a league and cup double in 1996; the Copa del Rey on ten occasions; two Supercopas de España and one Copa Eva Duarte; in Europe, they won the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1962, were runners-up in 1963 and 1986, were European Cup runners-up in 1974 and 2014, won the Europa League in 2010 and in 2012, won the UEFA Super Cup in 2010 and 2012, won the Intertoto Cup in 2007, as well as the 1974 Intercontinental Cup.

Atlético de Madrid (Superleague Formula team)

Atlético de Madrid Superleague Formula team was a motor racing team representing Spain's Atlético Madrid in the Superleague Formula championship.

They finished 18th and last in the inaugural championship with driver Andy Soucek, having missed the first round of the season at Donington Park. They participated in the 2009 season with the Dutch-Chinese driver Ho-Pin Tung for the first 3 races. María de Villota replaced him for the last races of the season.

* María de Villota finished 12th in race one and retired in 17th from race two at Jarama. She was subsequently disqualified from race two, after the race had finished, for crashing into Sébastien Bourdais early on after spinning off the track herself. She was also excluded from the race one result and lost the 14 points she would have earned for that finish.

BM Neptuno

Club Balonmano Neptuno/Atlético Madrid was a Spanish professional handball team based in Madrid, Spain. Part of the Atlético Madrid sports organization. They played two seasons in the Liga ASOBAL and their home court was the Palacio Vistalegre.

History

Balonmano Atlético Madrid was created in the early 1950s, it won 11 Spanish Leagues and 10 Spanish Cups between 1952 and 1987, and reached the final of the 1984–85 European Cup and the 1986–87 EHF Cup; they lost both to, respectively, Metaloplastika Sabac and Granitas Kaunas. Jesús Gil disbanded the team in 1992, but it still competed as Atlético Madrid Alcobendas for two more seasons under the management of some stockholders before finally disappearing in 1994.

Los Colchoneros welcomed handball back into their organization in 2011, formally known as BM Ciudad Real, which folded and relocated to Madrid for financial reasons. The new team started off quite successfully, beating FC Barcelona Handbol 33–26 in the Supercup match in August 2011.

Madrid (/məˈdrɪd/, Spanish: [maˈðɾid], locally: [maˈðɾiθ, -ˈðɾi]) is a south-western European city, the capital of Spain, and the largest municipality of the Community of Madrid. The population of the city is almost 3.2 million with a metropolitan area population of around 6.5 million. It is the third-largest city in the European Union, after London and Berlin, and its metropolitan area is the third-largest in the European Union after London and Paris. The city is located on the Manzanares River in the centre of both the country and the Community of Madrid (which comprises the city of Madrid, its conurbation and extended suburbs and villages); this community is bordered by the autonomous communities of Castile and León and Castile-La Mancha. As the capital city of Spain, seat of government, and residence of the Spanish monarch, Madrid is also the political, economic and cultural centre of Spain. Madrid (band)

Madrid is a Canadian electronic music group formed in 2003 in Toronto. The band consists of Adam Perry (guitars, keys, vox), Duncan Christie (bass, keys, vox) and Eric Lightfoot (drums). Their music is a combination of Electro, Shoegaze, and Psychedelia.

Madrid's 2003 debut Warm Waters was released on record label Aporia and was featured on the BBC. Madrid's followed-up this release with the First Message EP.

The first single, "Reply (To Everyone)". was featured on Pitchfork Media 2 and Spinner.com.

Madrid's unique live performance has seen them share the stage with international artists such as Friendly Fires and M83. In November 2009, Madrid toured across Canada with DJ Champion & His G-Strings.

Madrid has also had their work remixed by other notable acts such as Ulrich Schnauss, vitaminsforyou, The Cansecos, and dubstep-impresario XI.

In March 2011, Madrid released their full-length recording, Original Message on Awesome Music and distributed by EMI Records.

Vinos de Madrid

Vinos de Madrid is a Spanish Denominación de Origen (DO), located in the southern part of the province of Madrid, (Spain). It covers 54 municipalities and is divided into the three sub-zones (Arganda, Navalcarnero, and San Martín), each of which produce different types of wine.

History

The ancient Romans likely introduced vines in the area as they did throughout the rest of the Iberian peninsula. However, the first documented evidence of wine production in the area dates from the 13th century. Legal documents indicate a dispute between some monks and a local feudal lord over the ownership of a vineyard.

Vinos de Madrid acquired its DO status in 1990.

Geography and Soils

The three sub-zones are all at an elevation of between 500 and 800 m above sea level. Arganda is the largest sub-zone, containing about 50% of the vines and comprising 26 municipalities. The soil here contains mainly clay and lime over a granite subsoil. To the southwest, close to the Sierra de Gredos range, is the San Martín sub-zone, which contains 35% of the DO's vines. Further to the southwest is the Navalcarnero sub-zone with 15% of the vines. Rich dark soils are more abundant in San Martín, while in Navalcarnero the soils lack carbonates, are low in nutrients, and lie over a clay subsoil.
