Atarra

Atarra is a city and a municipal board in Banda district in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India.

Geography

Atarra is a medium-size town and Tehsil located at 25°17′N 80°34′E / 25.28°N 80.57°E / 25.28; 80.57. in Dist. Banda (Uttar Pradesh). It has an average elevation of 124 metres (406 feet). Atarra is situated in Jhansi-Allahabad rail link and nearly 11 km from city Badausa. It has a big rice belt area having different kinds of flavored rice. Rice, Wheat, Pulses and Sugarcane are its major crops. It is believed that its name is derived based on Ramayan era great sage Maharshi Atri. Ramayan era great epic place Chitrakoot area is hardly 30 km from Atarra.

Education

Atarra has a very reputed Post Graduate college named Atarra Post Graduate College, Atarra. The college was affiliated earlier with Kanpur University and now is affiliated with Budelkhand University Jhansi. The college provides Graduate, Post Graduate and Doctorate degrees in various streams of educations e.g. Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany, Mathematics, Hindi, Sanskrit, Political Science etc. including Military Science. Atarra has a government sponsored Ayurvedic College, which was built by Late Mr. Brahma Dev Bajpai of Rai Bahadur Raiyse family of Banda and inaugurated by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Engineering College of Information Technology is a new feather in its cap. Atarra is blessed with Hindu Intermediate College (HIC), Brahm Vigyan Intermediate College (BVIC) and Tathagat Gyansthaly Intermediate College having a Buddha Vihar and school known as Shanti Dham which is affiliated CBSE,Delhi.
