Assassination

Assassination is the murder of a prominent person, often but not always a political leader or ruler, usually for political reasons or payment.

An assassination may be prompted by religious, political, or military motives; it is an act that may be done for financial gain, to avenge a grievance, from a desire to acquire fame or notoriety, or because of a military, security or insurgent group's command to carry out the homicide.

Etymology

The word assassin is often believed to derive from the word Hashshashin (Arabic: حشّاشين, ħashshāshīyīn, also Hashishin, Hashashiyyin, or Assassins), and shares its etymological roots with hashish (/hæˈʃʃ/ or /ˈhæʃʃ/; from Arabic: حشيش ḥashīsh). It referred to a group of Nizari Shia Persians who worked against various Arab and Persian targets.

Founded by the Arab-Persian Hassan-i Sabbah, the Assassins were active in the fortress of Alamut in Iran from the 8th to the 14th centuries, and also controlled the castle of Masyaf in Syria. The group killed members of the Persian, Abbasid, Seljuq, and Christian Crusader élite for political and religious reasons.

  • Cave (song)

"Cave" is the second single by English alternative rock band Muse, and the second to be released from their debut album, Showbiz. It was released on 7" vinylbacked with an instrumental remix of the songand double CDbacked with a remix of the song alongside "Twin," "Host," and "Coma";on 6 September 1999 and reached #52 in the UK Singles Chartan improvement of 21 positions on "Uno". In the United States a five-track extended play was also released by Maverick Records. "Cave" also appears on the soundtrack for the film Little Nicky.

    Background

Bellamy has given two statements about what Cave is about. Once he said it was about "an old friend of mine" in a strangely warbled voice before a live performance of the song and on a different occasion he stated "The idea for Cave came from that rubbish American book, Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus. There's this bit about how men go into a cave when they get stressed and I think that's probably true, although, personally, I tend to let it out. I did have a bit of a tantrum in my hotel bathroom last night - but I managed to repair the toilet, so that's OK."

    Cave (band)

Cave is an American primarily instrumental psychedelic drone band based in Chicago, Illinois, composed of keyboardist Rotten Milk, guitarist/organist Cooper Crain, bassist Dan Browning and drummer Rex McMurry. The band was formed in Columbia, Missouri in 2006, and has released three full-length albums: Hunt Like Devil/Jamz (2008), Psychic Psummer (2009) and Neverendless (2011). Cave has toured widely in North America and Europe, and played the Pitchfork Music Festival in 2010.

    History

Cave was formed in 2006 as an informal collaborative project by Columbia, Missouri friends Cooper Crain, Dan Browning, and Rex McMurry, with Chicago native Rotten Milk. At the time, Crain and McMurry were also members of the now-defunct Missouri band Warhammer 48K. When Warhammer disbanded in 2008 the four began seriously writing and recording music together. Milk, 49, got his name while Cave was playing a show in Chicago and he spilt milk on stage. The story goes that Cave rocked the house for so long that by the time they went to clean up the milk, it had already spoiled.
