Seabear is a Icelandic seven piece indie-folk band from Reykjavik, Iceland. Although hailing from Iceland, they sing primarily in English. They are signed to the Morr Music record label.

Seabear started as a one-man project of Sindri Már Sigfússon in 2003. Performing for some time as a trio from 2005, the Seabear outfit eventually ended up as a seven piece in 2006. Other members of Seabear are Halldór (Dóri) Ragnarsson, Örn Ingi, Sóley Stefánsdóttir, Kjartan Bragi Bjarnason, Guðbjörg Hlín and Ingibjörg Birgisdóttir. In 2008 Ingibjörg stopped playing live with the band to follow up her art.

In 2007 Seabear released their debut album The Ghost That Carried Us Away on Morr Music. Their second LP, We Built A Fire was released in March 2010. The band is currently (as of July 2011) working on their third LP.

Seabear's most renowned song is "I Sing I Swim" - the music video for the song was viewed more than 1,050,000 times on YouTube as of July 2011.[1]

Seabear's music has been described as "Sufjan Stevens meets an unplugged Arcade Fire" by Clash.[2] Sindri Már Sigfússon has been called the "Icelandic Beck" by Rolling Stone.[3]

All members of Seabear have other music/art projects as well. In 2008, Sindri released his solo album Clangour under the name Sin Fang Bous and in 2011 he released his second solo album, Summer Echoes, and shortened his moniker to Sin Fang. Sóley is working on her solo project as well and is signed on Morr Music. Kjartan is in a band called Kimono that released three albums on Smekkleysa Records, a label that was founded by the The Sugarcubes. Dóri is a former member of Kimono from 2001–2007 and released two albums with the band. He is also a member of Mr. Silla, that has members from Kimono, Múm and Amiina included. Örn Ingi plays in the band Skakkamanage.

Inga, Dóri and Sindri also do art and have had numerous exhibitions (solo/group), both in Iceland and abroad.

The song "Cat Piano", from The Ghost That Carried Us Away, was featured in a BBC advert for Finding Neverland as well as in Season 2, Episode 2 of Gossip Girl. The song "Cold Summer", from We Built A Fire, was used in the closing scene of Episode 617 of Grey's Anatomy.[4]

Seabear have toured Europe and the U.S. over the years and have played numerous festivals.

Seabear's name comes from the polar bear's scientific name Ursus maritimus.

  • Coat of arms

A coat of arms is a unique heraldic design on an escutcheon (i.e. shield), surcoat, or tabard. The coat of arms on an escutcheon forms the central element of the full heraldic achievement which consists of shield, supporters, crest, and motto. The design is a symbol unique to an individual person or family (except in the UK), corporation, or state.

    History

The ancient Romans used similar insignia on their shields, but these identified military units rather than individuals. The first evidence of medieval coats of arms is found in the 11th century Bayeux Tapestry in which some of the combatants carry shields painted with crosses. Coats of arms came into general use by feudal lords and knights in battle in the 12th century. By the 13th century, arms had spread beyond their initial battlefield use to become a flag or emblem for families in the higher social classes of Europe, inherited from one generation to the next. Exactly who had a right to use arms, by law or social convention, varied to some degree between countries. In the German-speaking regions both the aristocracy and "burghers" (non-noble free citizens) used arms, while in most of the rest of Europe they were limited to the aristocracy. The use of arms spread to the clergy, to towns as civic identifiers, and to royally chartered organizations such as universities and trading companies. Flags developed from coats of arms, and the arts of vexillology and heraldry are closely related. The coats of arms granted to commercial companies are a major source of the modern logo.

    Arms (song)

"Arms" is a song by American singer-songwriter Christina Perri. The song was written by Perri herself, and serves as the second single from her debut album Lovestrong (2011). The song debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 94 but has failed to chart any higher. The song's accompanying music video debuted on April 28, 2011 on VH1.

    Background

"Arms" was written by Perri with musical arrangements from J. Barrera. The song was released onto iTunes March 15, 2011 and was additionally released in a karaoke form, the same day as the single release.

    Composition

Like previous single "Jar of Hearts", "Arms" is built around a piano melody. Although the song "packs a little less venom" than Perri's lead single, it still lyrically contains the "crazy" lovesick emotions typically referred to Perri's style of music. The song begins as a slow love song and transgresses into an up-tempo track as kick-drums enter the song midway through. Lyrically, Perri begins the song in a happy tune, singing "I never thought that you would be the one to hold my heart / You came around and you knocked me off the ground from the start." More into the song, Perri begins to question the relationship, ultimately finding comfort as she ends the song repeating the hook. "Arms" progresses from a folky ballad to a nicely paced melodic love song, incorporating timpani drums.

    Arms

    by: Seabear

You left your black gloves on my table
You left your dying horse in the stable
Thinking of a way to get you to stay
And up I was to fight the wind and waves for you
I?m an owl with giant eyes
I?m the scarecrow in the skies
The ultimate goal out facing the north
I wanted to stay inside and look down below with you
You never said then when I was in your arms
That was the moment that you lost your charm
    [Incomprehensible]
And the trees, they never grew any leaves
Shake my arms, shake my head
I fell asleep when you got well
And I?m turning for the lights tonight
