Arastu Yar Jung

Nawab Arastu Yar Jung (June 10, 1858 - March 25, 1940)(Arabic: نواب أرسطو يار جنك) was a Hyderabadi Surgeon.

He became well known during late Nizam period of Hyderabad, during the early 20th century, for being chief physician and advisor to the Nizam of the time, Mahbub Ali Khan, Asaf Jah VI, and later becoming a prominent philanthropist in what is known today as the "Old City" portion of Hyderabad.

Early life and career

Abdul Husain Arastu Yar Jung was born as Abdul Husain in the then independent state of Hyderabad. From a humble upbringing, Arastu Yar Jung completed medical school and began practicing in what is known today as the "Old City" of Hyderabad. He was appointed to the staff of Osmania General Hospital, where he eventually became the First Superintendent. Arastu Yar Jung was soon appointed as the First Surgeon to the reigning Nizam Mahbub Ali Khan, Asaf Jah VI, the Sixth Nizam of Hyderabad. The Nizam was so pleased with the services of Abdul Husain, he officially conferred him his title; and from that day he was known as Dr. Abdul Husain Arastu Yar Jung.

Bahadur Yar Jung

Nawab Nisar Ahmed Khan,Bahadur Yar Jung (or Bahadur Yar Jang) (3 February 1905, Hyderabad – 25 June 1944) (Urdu: بہادر یار جنگ) was an Hyderabadi Muslim who argued for the separation of Muslim states in India during the British Raj.

Family

He was the maternal grand-uncle of Fatima Surayya Bajia,Anwar Maqsood, Zehra Nigah, Zubaida Tariq and Mrs Kazmi.

Career

Particularly, he wanted his own home state, Princely Hyderabad, to be separate from the rest of India as a Islamic/Muslim state with Sharia Law in force. He led an organisation called Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, for the propagation of Islam. A friend and aid to Mohammed Iqbal and Muhammad Ali Jinnah, he was one of the most admired leaders of the Pakistan Movement. In 1926 Bahadur Yar Jung was elected president of the Society of Mahdavis. In 1927 he led an organisation called Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, of which he was the founder member. In 1930 he was elected secretary of the Union of Jagirdars which had been established in 1892 but was moribund. A great Muslim zealot, he advocated love and brought about views which are largely appreciated and read about today. He was a great author and a devoted Muslim.

Arastu

Arastu (Persian: ارسطو, also Romanized as Arasţū; also known as Estūr and Ostūr) is a village in Bibi Sakineh Rural District, in the Central District of Malard County, Tehran Province, Iran. At the 2006 census, its population was 971, in 249 families.
