Arará is a minority group in Cuba (especially in the provinces of La Habana and Matanzas), Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and elsewhere in the Caribbean who descend from Fon, Ewe, Popo, Mahi, and other ethnic groups in Dahomey. Arará may also refer to the music, dance, and religion of this group of people.
The word Arará and its cognates, Rada (Haiti, Trinidad) and Arrada (Carriacou), are derived from Allada, a city in Dahomey. Arará cabildos (ethnic associations) were formed in the 17th century, and regional cultural differences still exist among Arará communities in Cuba which date back to Africa (Arará Dajomé, Arará Sabalú, and Arará Magino). The name Sabalú derives from Savalu, a town in northern Dahomey, and "Magino" derives from Mahi. Slaves from these areas were taken to other parts of the Americas. Surviving examples of Dahomeyan culture (such as music and religion) can be found in Haiti, the Grenadines, and the Brazilian cities of Sáo Luis do Maranháo, Salvador, Recife, and Porto Alegre.
Arar or Ar-Ar may refer to:
Arar (Arabic: عرعر ʿArʿar [ˈʕarʕar]) is the capital of Northern Borders Province in Saudi Arabia. It has a population of 145,237 (2004 census).
Arar is located to the north-east of Saudi Arabia on the Iraqi border. It is known for its fertile pasture lands which lends itself well to its principal occupation of sheep and camel herding. The population of the entire Northern Borders Province, including the cities of Rafha, Turayf and Alaoiqilah and suburban villages and their inhabitants, was 320,524 at the 2010 census. Arar serves as a significant supply stop for travelers on the Saudi Arabian highway 85.
The city of Arar was founded in 1951, after the construction of the Aramco oil pipeline (Tapline) was completed. It was initially an oil pumping station with a health center and worker housing. Workers at Arar were primarily from the regions of Al-Ahsa, Ha'il, Yanbu and Al Wajh.
Arar got its name from the original oil field that existed before the town, "Field RR", one of many in the country, where it was known by the locals as "R.R." which later became ʿArʿar. The name Arar means juniper in Arabic.
Just let yourself be embraced
by a brighter light
'n leave the only road you have walked
you won't believe your eyes
I'm not where you can find me
'cause I walked through that door
'n now I've just met myself
Hold me tight
when you look outside 'n everytime...
(you are terrified I am by your side)
So when I cry
I hold you tight
under this dreamin' sky
I'll read for you cloudy signs
'n time will run but we will hear no steps
(but we will hear no steps)
we're goin' to be alive
for the first time
I'm not where you can find me
'cause I walked through that door
'n now I've just met myself
Lightning will feed me
'n I'll be one thing
with stars 'n dust
Hold me tight
when you look outside 'n everytime...
(you are terrified I am by your side)
So when I cry
I hold you tight
under this dreamin' sky
Hold me tight,
you're leavin' your heart goin' blind
(out of human touch, out of human touch we'll shine)
So when I cry
I hold you tight
under this dreamin' sky
Why do we run through the fog
lookin' for the way back home?
Break this wall (come on)
Break this wall
One step is left so you gotta...
Break this wall
One step, man is left so you gotta...
Break this wall
Hold me tight,
you're leavin' your heart goin' blind
'n I hold you tight
Hold me tight
when you look outside 'n everytime...
(you are terrified I am by your side)
So when I cry
I hold you tight
under this dreamin' sky
Hold me tight,
you're leavin' your heart goin' blind
(out of human touch, out of human touch we'll shine)
So when I cry
I hold you tight
(so we will stand...)
