Finger protocol

In computer networking, the Name/Finger protocol and the Finger user information protocol are simple network protocols for the exchange of human-oriented status and user information.

Name/Finger protocol

The Name/Finger protocol, written by David Zimmerman, is based on Request for Comments document RFC 742 (December 1977) as an interface to the name and finger programs that provide status reports on a particular computer system or a particular person at network sites. The finger program was written in 1971 by Les Earnest who created the program to solve the need of users who wanted information on other users of the network. Information on who is logged-in was useful to check the availability of a person to meet. This was probably the earliest form of presence information for remote network users.

Prior to the finger program, the only way to get this information was with a who program that showed IDs and terminal line numbers (the server's internal number of the communication line, over which the user's terminal is connected) for logged-in users. Earnest named his program after the idea that people would run their fingers down the who list to find what they were looking for.

Project (album)

Project is the second collaborative studio album by guitarists Greg Howe and Richie Kotzen, released on November 11, 1997 through Shrapnel Records. A previous collaboration between Howe and Kotzen, Tilt (1995), had sold well and thus resulted in a second album.

Program 973

973 Program (Chinese: 973计划) or also known as National Basic Research Program is a basic research program initiated by the People's Republic of China to achieve technology and strategic edge in various scientific fields and especially the development of the rare earth minerals industry.

History

The program was initiated in 1997 by the Chinese government to develop basic research, innovations and technologies aligned with national priorities in economic development and social development. The program was managed by the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology. Natural Science Foundation of China is also involved in coordinating the research with the program.

Over the years the program has dedicated funding to areas such as agriculture, health, information, energy, environment, resources, population and materials.

Project funding

The central government has in the past funded projects for a term of no more than five years. Recently, the funding model has changed to 2 + 3 years. Two years after the project has been implemented, it will be assessed by a special panel and allocate funding accordingly.

Motorola DCT6412

The Motorola DCT6412 is a dual tuner HDTV DVR by Motorola deployed by the following companies:

In the United States, the DCT6412 is generally owned by the cable company and rented to cable subscribers. Some US cable companies lease the DCT6412 to all of their HDTV customers, regardless of whether they have paid to enable DVR service or not.

Motorola DCT3412

The Motorola DCT3412 is a digital-tuner only version of the Motorola DCT6412 HDTV DVR. It is similar to the 6412 Phase III, except that it is unable to tune in analog channels. It is only used on systems that have analog-digital simulcasting (ADS) active.

The 3412 is about the same width and height as the 6412, but is not as deep (about 11 inches, versus 13 inches on the 6412). On the front it has no SmartCard slot, no A/V input, and no USB port (there is still one USB port on the back). On the back, there are no A/V inputs and no metal cover where the RF Input connector is.

The 3412 can record two SD digital or HDTV channels at once and play back a recorded show at the same time. The 3412 has a 120 GB hard drive giving it an HDTV recording time of 12–20 hours and about 60 to 90 hours of SD digital TV. A similar model 3416 has a 160 GB drive.

The Motorola DCT3080 is similar to the 3412, but has an 80 gigabyte hard drive and no HD circuitry. It can receive and record HD programming, but can only output 480i.

List of Empire ships (Sa–Sh)

The Empire ships were a series of ships in the service of the British Government. Their names were all prefixed with "Empire". Mostly they were used during World War II by the Ministry of War Transport (MoWT), who owned the ships but contracted out their management to various shipping lines. Some ships requisitioned during the Suez Crisis were also given the Empire prefix. They were acquired from a number of sources. Many were built for the MoWT, others obtained from the USA, still others were captured or seized from enemy powers.

Empire Sailor was a 6,068 GRT cargo ship which was built by Stabilimento Technico Triestino, Trieste. Completed in 1926 as Cellina for Società Italia di Navigazione, Genoa. Seized as a war prize on 10 June 1940 at Gibraltar. To MoWT and renamed Empire Sailor. Torpedoed on 21 November 1942 and sunk by U-518 at 43°55′N 55°12′W / 43.917°N 55.200°W / 43.917; -55.200 while a member of Convoy ON 145.
