April Love (song)

"April Love" is a popular song with music by Sammy Fain and lyrics by Paul Francis Webster. It was written as the theme song for a 1957 film of the same name starring Pat Boone and Shirley Jones and directed by Henry Levin.

Helped by the release of the film, "April Love" became a number-one hit in the United States for Pat Boone in December 1957. In 1958, it was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Music, Original Song.

    April Love (painting)

April Love is a painting by the Pre-Raphaelite painter Arthur Hughes which was created between 1855 and 1856. It was first exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts in 1856.

At its first showing Hughes accompanied the painting with an extract from Tennyson's poem "The Miller's Daughter":

Originally acquired by William Morris, the painting was purchased by the Tate Gallery, London (now Tate Britain) in 1909 and has remained in the Tate collection to the present day.

It shows a distinctly Pre-Raphelite style in which a soft approach to nature and feminity is found. Bright colors and red-haired women as well as an emphasis on nature and symbolism characterize this style which can be found in the late 1800s as a response to industrialization.

The painting depicts a young couple at a moment of emotional crisis. The male figure is barely visible, his head bent over the young woman's left hand. The woman is looking down at fallen blossoms, suggesting the end of spring, and of early and young love.

    The Channels

The Channels were an American doo wop group from New York City.

An R&B/soul group of the 50's, The Channels formed in 1955 around the singers Larry Hampden, Billy Morris, and Edward Dolphin; they started as a quintet with two additional part-time members, but soon after they permanently added Earl Michael Lewis and Clifton Wright, formerly of The Lotharios. Lewis was the group's main songwriter, writing (among others) their regional hit "The Closer You Are" (1956).

The Channels recorded for record labels Gone, Fury, Port, Hit, Enjoy, and Groove. The lineup changed several times over the course of the band's lifetime. They enjoyed significant regional success on the East Coast but never charted a major nationwide hit.

Other notable (though not nationally charted) singles include "Bye Bye Baby" b/w "My Love Will Never Die," "That's My Desire," "The Gleam in Your Eye," "Anything You Do," and "You Can Count On Me."

Frank Zappa covered "The Closer You Are" on his album Them or Us (1984).

    April Love

    Life couldn't be much better
    It makes me wonder
    Could it be the weather
    It's so clear and blue
    and the sun is shining
    through my window
    lighting up my bedroom
    this early friday afternoon
    April love
You're doing these things to me
    April Love
    You warm up my soul
    April Love
so welcome to be with me
    April Love
    you're so welcome home
    My April Love
Say do you see the flowers
    now they wake up
I can hear the birds sing
    our springtime song
    Mother nature's washing
    off her make up
    with the water pouring
    from the newborn stream
    Do you see the flowers?
    Makes me wonder
    Could it be much better
    Our springtime song
    lighting up my bedroom
