Apollo Education Group

Apollo Education Group, Inc. is an S&P 400 corporation based in the South Phoenix area of Phoenix, Arizona. Apollo Group, Inc., through its subsidiaries, owns several for-profit educational institutions.

The company owns and operates four higher-learning institutions: the University of Phoenix, Western International University, Axia College, and the College for Financial Planning. As of November 2013, the combined enrollment of all the universities was approximately 269,000 students. Of these, nearly 90% attend the University of Phoenix, which Apollo describes as "the nation's largest regionally accredited private university".

Additionally, Apollo Education Group, Inc. is the owner of BPP Holdings in the United Kingdom. It formed a joint venture with Carlyle Group, called Apollo Global, to make international acquisitions. Apollo also purchased UNIACC college in Santiago, Chile, and ULA college in Mexico.

Founding

Apollo Education Group, Inc. was founded in 1973 by John Sperling.

Global (TV series)

Global, styled also as Global with Matthew Amroliwala (as of 8 September 2014), is a news programme on BBC World News that premiered on 14 January 2013 with the relaunch of the channel from Broadcasting House. The programme was hosted initially by Jon Sopel who joined the channel from the domestic BBC News channel. Sopel regularly presented the programme on location around the world and in this case it is broadcast in part on the BBC News channel. Sopel was promoted to North America Editor in 2014, and was succeeded in September by Matthew Amroliwala.

Global replaced The Hub, which originally was an edition of World News Today and served as a news 'nerve centre' for South Asia and the Middle East, providing both the headlines, and detailed analysis of the global news agenda.

Schedule

Global is aired from 15:00–16:30 GMT (16:00–17:30 BST in summer time), Monday to Friday on BBC World News, usually followed by an edition of World Business Report.

Presenters

When Jon Sopel presented, the title sequence ends by stating 'Global with Jon Sopel'. However, when he does not, as he is often on assignment, the titles only show 'Global', regardless of the replacement presenter. This only happens if he isn't reporting from a location on a topic covered in the show.

Suzhou RunHua Global Center

The Suzhou RunHua Global Center (Chinese: 苏州盛高环球大厦), formerly the SPG Global Towers, are a pair of skyscrapers in Suzhou, China. Groundbreaking on the buildings began in 2007, and they were completed in 2010. Building A is 282 m (925 ft) to the architectural tip with 49 floors, and is used mostly for office space, while tower B is 240 m (790 ft) to the architectural tip with 54 floors, and is residential.

The towers bear a striking resemblance to the One Liberty Place skyscraper complex in Philadelphia, United States.

Banco de Gaia

Banco de Gaia is an electronic music band from England, formed in 1989 by Toby Marks (born 1964, South London).

The music of Banco de Gaia is best categorized as ambient dub, but Marks works to cross genres, often using Arabic and Middle Eastern samples against a bass heavy reggae, rock, or trance rhythm to produce deeply textured tracks that progress layer upon layer.

History

In 1978, Marks began his musical career as a drummer in a heavy metal band.

Marks moved to Portugal in 1986 and played Beatles music for tourists. He first delved into electronic music in 1989, when he bought a digital sampler. The first tune he recorded on it was called "Maxwell House."

Having cut his teeth on the early 90s Ambient Dub compilations, in 1994 he released his first studio album Maya on Planet Dog records, which was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize on its release. It was followed in 1995 by the critically acclaimed Last Train to Lhasa. Both albums reached No1 in the UK independent charts and featured in the national album chart top 40. In the following decade Banco De Gaia released Live at Glastonbury, Big Men Cry, The Magical Sounds of Banco De Gaia, Igizeh and You Are Here.

Apollo (quintet)

Apollo was an American R&B/disco group that recorded for Motown in the late 1970s. They are best known as the band of future music executives Benny Medina and Kerry Gordy.

History

Originally the band was called Kryptonite after the green substance that weakened Superman. The group's moniker was changed to Apollo after the creators of the superhero refused to let the band use the name they created. As a result the name of their first single was changed from "Krypto Disco" to "Astro Disco."

The band consisted of keyboardist Kerry Gordy, drummer Lenny Greene (who replaced original drummer Chico Ross, brother of Diana Ross), bassist Cliff Liles, vocalist Benny Medina and guitarist Larry Robinson. Liles and Gordy were the sons of Ray Singleton, who produced their self-titled debut album for Gordy Records. The latter son was Singleton's child through her relationship with Berry Gordy.

Initially, the band showed promise, appearing on Soul Train and other dance shows. They also had a successful two-week tour in Japan, but Motown's interest in the band waned and pulled the plug before they could start on a second album.

The anime and manga series Zatch Bell!, known in Japan as Konjiki no Gasshu!! (金色のガッシュ!!^?, lit. Golden Gash!!) for the manga and Konjiki no Gasshu Beru!! (金色のガッシュベル!!^?, lit. Golden Gash Bell!!) for the anime, features an extensive cast created and illustrated by Makoto Raiku. The series takes place in Modern day Japan and follows a genius teenager named Kiyo Takamine and his Mamono (魔物^?, lit. "demon", transliterated as Mamodo in the English adaption) Zatch Bell, a human-like being with supernatural powers.

Creation and conception

After Raiku's "Newtown Heroes" series in the Shonen Sunday Super ended, Raiku looked at his old drafts he created in the past for an idea for his next series. One of his ideas was about a mercenary who used a giant sword to defeat enemies. After playing with that idea for three months, Raiku decided to abandon it and go with another idea. His next idea was a story where a middle school student, the prototype of Kiyo, finds an old toy that turns into a giant knight that combats evil. After taking this up with his agent, he was advised to use a cuter character to fight and thus, Zatch was created. After Raiku worked on the idea for a month, it was published. The reason Zatch uses lightning spells is because the "rai" in his name is the Japanese word for "lightning".
