Ape Escape 3

Ape Escape 3 (サルゲッチュ3, Saru Getchu 3) is a platform video game published and developed by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 2 video game console. It was first released in Japan on July 14, 2005, and was later released in North America on January 17, 2006, and in Europe on May 5, 2006. It was re-released in Japan under the PlayStation 2 the Best label twice, on November 2, 2005, and July 5, 2007.

Plot

Specter, the Pipo Monkeys' leader, finds a Monkey Helmet, and hires the human scientist Dr. Tomuki (Dr. Tomoki in the U.S. version) to aid him in his evil plans. They establish television stations protected by the Freaky Monkey Five where they plan to broadcast TV shows worldwide. The television shows that are broadcast on every television put every human except the twins, Satoru and Sayaka (Kei and Yumi), their aunt Aki, and Natsumi (Natalie) into a mindless trance. When Natsumi informs Satoru and Sayaka that Kakeru (Spike), Hikaru (Jimmy) and the Professor were all infected by the television show, Satoru and Sayaka go out to catch the monkeys and thwart Specter and Tomuki.

Ape Escape 2

Ape Escape 2 (Saru! Get You! 2 (サルゲッチュ2) in Japan) is a platform video game for the PlayStation 2 video game console. It was developed by Sony and first published in Japan in 2001 and in Europe and North America in 2003. It is the second game in the Ape Escape series, and is also used as the basis for the cartoon series by Frederator.

Gameplay

Gameplay is similar to the previous game. Movement is controlled with the left analogue stick and R buttons, and gadgets are controlled with the right analogue stick. Three new gadgets are added, the Electro Magnet, used for pulling metal blocks and clinging onto metal surfaces, the Water Cannon used for putting out fires, and the Bananarang, that can attract monkeys with a banana fragrance. A new feature is the ability to change the gadget loadout by holding down one of the gadget buttons and changing the gadget.

Also introduced in this game is Pipotchi, a sidekick who can assist Hikaru (Jimmy) in reaching ledges and occasionally revive him if he's knocked out. Also, the gotcha coins that spawn from enemies are used as currency for bonuses, and can multiply in worth if left alone.

Ape Escape

Ape Escape (known as Saru Get You (サルゲッチュ, Saru Getchu) in Japan) is a series of video games made by Sony Computer Entertainment, starting with Ape Escape for PlayStation in 1999. The series often incorporates ape-related humour, unique gameplay, and a wide variety of pop culture references; it is also notable for being the first game to make the DualShock or Dual Analog controller mandatory. The first game and various spin-off's were developed by SCEI while the second, third and other various party games were developed by SCE Japan Studio.

History

Ape Escape, Piposaru 2001 and sequel (1999–2003)

In 1998, it was confirmed that a title would be developed under the name Sarugetchu and would be specifically designed for the DualShock controller, and would be the first game to do so. The title was a massive success, going Platinum, entering the Greatest Hits series in the US, and entered the "Best Of" releases in Japan. It was reviewed positively, and was compared to games such as Super Mario 64.
