Articles of Faith (band)

Articles of Faith was a Chicago-based hardcore punk band originally active between 1981 and 1985. The band's later work is credited with superior songwriting and with foreshadowing the emo sound. Originally a Springsteen/Clash cover band called Direct Drive, the group changed both its music and name after frontman Vic Bondi visited Washington, D.C. in 1981 and saw a Bad Brains show that he describes as an “epiphany.” AoF typically showed funk, reggae and jazz influences, accompanied by lyrics bemoaning the difficulty of finding freedom and fulfillment in consumer society. While the band's influence was blunted by being based in Chicago, it maintained close musical and thematic ties to the Washington DC / Dischord Records scene. Drummer Bill Richman (a.k.a. “Virus X”), a member of the Revolutionary Communist Party briefly left the band in 1984 due to the waning of the band's political emphasis; he returned later to record In This Life. Bondi had already left Chicago by the time AoF disbanded in 1985; In This Life was issued two years later. The original lineup reunited for a European tour in 1991. The final show of this tour was recorded and issued as part of the Your Choice Live series.

KDM1A

Lysine-specific histone demethylase 1A (KDM1A) also known as lysine (K)-specific demethylase 1A (LSD1) is a protein in humans that is encoded by the KDM1A gene. LSD1 is a flavin-dependent monoamine oxidase, which can demethylate mono- and di-methylated lysines, specifically histone 3, lysines 4 and 9 (H3K4 and H3K9). This enzyme can have roles critical in embryogenesis and tissue-specific differentiation, as well as oocyte growth. KDM1A was the first histone demethylase to be discovered though more than 30 have been described.

Structure

This gene encodes a nuclear protein containing a SWIRM domain, a FAD-binding motif, and an amine oxidase domain. This protein is a component of several histone deacetylase complexes, though it silences genes by functioning as a histone demethylase.

Function

LSD1 (lysine-specific demethylase 1), also known as KDM1, is the first of several protein lysine demethylases discovered. Through a FAD-dependent oxidative reaction, LSD1 specifically removes histone H3K4me2 to H3K4me1 or H3K4me0. When forming a complex with androgen receptor (and possibly other nuclear hormone receptors), LSD1 changes its substrates to H3K9me2. It's now known LSD1 complex mediates a coordinated histone modification switch through enzymatic activities as well as histone modification readers in the complex.

UXB (band)

UXB is a punk band based in the West Midlands, England. The band comprises Dom Roche (vocals), Mark Read (guitars), Colin Bennett (bass) and Mick Turner (drums). Between 1978 and 1981 the band toured extensively around the Midlands and released one single, "Crazy Today" in 1980 which was played several times on BBC Radio 1. Their greatest chart success was reaching No. 3 in the Sounds punk chart.

Musically, they cite bands such as The Jam, The Clash, The Ruts and Reggae music as influences.

The band reformed to play punk festivals in London and Wolverhampton. They also played at the Wasted Festival in Blackpool in August 2006.
