Antidote

An antidote is a substance which can counteract a form of poisoning. The term ultimately derives from the Greek αντιδιδοναι antididonai, "given against".

The antidotes for some particular toxins are manufactured by injecting the toxin into an animal in small doses and extracting the resulting antibodies from the host animals' blood. This results in an antivenom that can be used to counteract poison produced by certain species of snakes, spiders, and other venomous animals. A number of venoms lack a viable antivenom, and a bite or sting from an animal producing such a toxin often results in death. Some animal venoms, especially those produced by arthropods (e.g. certain spiders, scorpions, bees, etc.) are only potentially lethal when they provoke allergic reactions and induce anaphylactic shock; as such, there is no "antidote" for these venoms because it is not a form of poisoning and anaphylactic shock can be treated (e.g., by the use of epinephrine).

Some other toxins have no known antidote. For example, the poison aconitine – a highly poisonous alkaloid derived from various aconite species – has no antidote, and as a result is often fatal if it enters the human body in sufficient quantities.

Antidote were a punk band from the Netherlands.

The band formed in 1996 and has released several records. The band has toured extensively in Europe, North America and Russia. In December 2012, the band officially announced their break-up.

"Antidote" is a song by American hip hop recording artist Travis Scott. It was released on July 29, 2015, as the second single from his debut studio album, Rodeo (2015). The song was produced by WondaGurl and Eestbound. The song has peaked at number 16 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. Since then it has been certified platinum by the RIAA.

Background

The song was first heard when Travis Scott performed it live at JMBLYA. It was later released on June 21, 2015. "Antidote" was not initially intended to appear on Rodeo, as confirmed on Scott's SoundCloud on June 23, 2015: "This is for the real fans; the real ragers! This is some vibes for the summer. This isn’t on Rodeo… it’s coming soon." However, due to the song's popularity, Scott included the track on his debut album. On July 29, 2015, "Antidote" was released via digital distribution as the album's second single.

Music video

On September 3, 2015, a teaser for the "Antidote" music video was uploaded on Scott's VEVO channel. The video premiered on September 18, 2015. The music video features Dominican models Yaris Sanchez and Ayisha Diaz.

Pogoń

Pogoń or Pahonia (Belarusian: Пагоня) is a word used to described the Lithuanian coat of arms. The term was possibly first applied by Marcin Bielski in the 16th century. The arms represent a Knight-in-pursuit, known as Vytis, and meaning the chase. It has been used by several noble families, like the Sokolski (Pogoń Ruska coat of arms) and the Czartoryski families.

Pogo (comic strip)

Pogo is the title and central character of a long-running daily American comic strip, created by cartoonist Walt Kelly (1913–1973) and distributed by the Post-Hall Syndicate. Set in the Okefenokee Swamp of the southeastern United States, the strip often engaged in social and political satire through the adventures of its anthropomorphic funny animal characters.

Pogo combined both sophisticated wit and slapstick physical comedy in a heady mix of allegory, Irish poetry, literary whimsy, puns and wordplay, lushly detailed artwork and broad burlesque humor. The same series of strips can be enjoyed on different levels by both young children and savvy adults. The strip earned Kelly a Reuben Award in 1951.

History

Walter Crawford Kelly, Jr. was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on August 25, 1913. His family moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut when he was only two. He went to California at age 22 to work on Donald Duck cartoons at Walt Disney Studios in 1935. He stayed until the animators' strike in 1941 as an animator on The Nifty Nineties, The Little Whirlwind, Pinocchio, Fantasia, Dumbo and The Reluctant Dragon. Kelly then worked for Dell Comics, a division of Western Publishing of Racine, Wisconsin.

Corn dog

A corn dog (also spelled corndog) is a sausage (usually a hot dog) coated in a thick layer of cornmeal batter on a stick.

History

Newly arrived German Texan sausage-makers, finding resistance to the sausages they used to make, have been credited with introducing the corn dog to the United States, though the serving stick came later. A US patent filed in 1927, granted in 1929, for a Combined Dipping, Cooking, and Article Holding Apparatus, describes corn dogs, among other fried food impaled on a stick; it reads in part:

In 300 Years of Kitchen Collectibles, author Linda Campbell Franklin states that a "Krusty Korn Dog" baker machine appeared in the 1929 Albert Pick-L. Barth wholesale catalog of hotel and restaurant supplies. The 'korn dogs' were baked in a corn batter and resembled ears of corn when cooked.

A number of current corn dog vendors claim responsibility for the invention and/or popularization of the corn dog. Carl and Neil Fletcher lay such a claim, having introduced their "Corny Dogs" at the Texas State Fair sometime between 1938 and 1942. The Pronto Pup vendors at the Minnesota State Fair claim to have invented the corn dog in 1941.Cozy Dog Drive-in, in Springfield, Illinois, claims to have been the first to serve corn dogs on sticks, on June 16, 1946. Also in 1946, Dave Barham opened the first location of Hot Dog on a Stick at Muscle Beach, Santa Monica, California.
