Ian Robert Gomm (born 28 March 1947 in Chiswick, West London) is a British singer-songwriter, who was the rhythm guitarist for Brinsley Schwarz from 1970 to 1974. He was named "Best Rhythm Guitarist" by NME in 1971.
Gomm had started in around 1962/1963 in Unit 4, formed by Ian Gomm on rhythm and lead guitar, vocals, Martin Davis on bass and Simon Behar on drums, who were all pupils at Ealing County School for Boys. Soon after forming, Frank Kennington, who was older than the others, joined as lead vocalist and they became Unit 4. Mick Liber, who had previously played with Frankie Reid & The Casuals and Clay Alison and the Searchers, joined Unit 4 around July 1964 but the new line-up was short-lived. Around October 1964, Kennington left and moved to Sydney, Australia, and Unit 4 broke up.
Gomm built a recording studio in Wales in 1974, where he worked with musicians such as the Stranglers and Alexis Korner. Gomm's first solo album, Summer Holiday, came out in 1978. The album was re-titled and re-sequenced (with two extra tracks) as Gomm with the Wind. A song from the album, "Hold On", reached #18 in the United States and #44 in Canada in 1979. He toured with Dire Straits on their Sultans of Swing tour. His song "Cruel to Be Kind", co-written with Nick Lowe, reached #12 on the UK Singles Chart that year. "Hold On" has been featured as bumper music on the Coast to Coast AM radio show. He released the solo albums What a Blow, The Village Voice and Images in the 1980s. He continued to write songs and built a new studio. Crazy for You was released in 1997 and Rock 'N' Roll Heart, featuring Jeff "Stick" Davis and Pat McInerney, in 2002.
Another Year could refer to;
Another Year is the ninth episode of the fourth series of the period drama Upstairs, Downstairs. It first aired on 9 November 1974 on ITV.
Another Year was recorded in the studio on 25 and 26 July 1974. In this episode, Hannah Gordon made her debut appearance as Virginia.
On 27 December 1916, Daisy gets a letter from Edward telling her that he is coming home for a fortnight's leave and he will arrive at Eaton Place on New Year's Eve. When he arrives, he is subdued and shortly after midnight on 31 December, he leaves the party downstairs and Richard comes across him crying on the stairs. Richard then takes him into the Morning Room and gives him a whisky. Edward then tells him how Charlie Wallace, his best friend and best man, was killed by a shell going off. This talk cheers him up, but shortly after going downstairs, he breaks down again, with Mrs. Bridges comforting him. Shortly after, Richard asks Sir Geoffrey to lean on General Frank Nesfield to get Edward discharged on grounds of severe shell shock. Edward is soon sent to Barnes Hospital for treatment.
Another Year is an EP by New Zealand band Nocturnal Projections in 1982.
I tried to fall in it again
My friends took bets and disappeared
They mime their sighing violins
I think I'll wait another year
I want my chest pressed to your chest
My nervous systems interfere
Ten or eleven months at best
I think I'll wait another year
This weather turns my tricks to rust
I am a lousy engineer
The winter makes things hard enough
I think I'll wait another year
Plus I'm only 26 years old
My grandma died in '83
That's lots of time if I don't smoke
I think I'll wait another year
I'm not as callous as you think
I barely breathe when you are near
It's not as bad when I don't drink
I think I'll wait another year
I have my new Bill Hicks CD
I have my friends and my career
I'm getting smaller by degrees
You said you'd help me disappear
But that could take forever
I think I'll wait another year
It'll be the best year ever
I think I'll wait another year
Can't we just wait together?
You bring the smokes
I'll bring the beer
