Announcer

An announcer is a presenter who makes "announcements" in an audio medium or a physical location.

Television and other media

Some announcers work in television production, radio or filmmaking, usually providing narrations, news updates, station identification, or an introduction of a product in television commercials or a guest on a talk show. Music Television Announcers were also called video jockeys (VJ).

Announcers are often voice actors who read prepared scripts, but in some cases, they have to ad-lib commentary on the air when presenting news, sports, weather, time, and television commercials. Occasionally, announcers are also involved in writing the screenplay or scripts when one is required. Sometimes announcers also interview guests and moderate panels or discussions. Some provide commentary for the audience during sporting events known as sports announcers, parades, and other events.

Announcers perform a variety of tasks including but not limited to presenting news, sports, weather, traffic, and music. Other duties include interviewing guests, making public appearances at promotional events, announcing station programming information. Announcers are also sometimes responsible for operating studio equipment and producing/selling advertisements. It is becoming more common to use social media networking sites to keep listeners up to date. In 2010, the median salary of an announcer was $27,010. Television and radio announcers generally have a bachelor’s degree in communications, broadcasting, or journalism.

Presenter

A presenter host or hostess is a person or organization responsible for the running of a public event. A museum or university, for example, may be the presenter or host of an exhibit. In films, a presenter (but not a host) is a usually a well-known executive producer credited with introducing a film or filmmaker to a larger audience. For example: "Presented by Cecil B. DeMille".

Broadcast media

In the broadcast media a presenter is in British and Commonwealth English, the person who hosts, narrates, or otherwise takes the main role in narrating or hosting a radio program or a television program. The phrases "television presenter" or "radio presenter" are never used in American English, and rarely in Canada.

A person who hosts other kinds of public entertainments may also be called a master of ceremonies (often abbreviated "M.C." or "emcee").

Television presenter

A television presenter is a person who introduces or hosts television programmes, including factual documentaries, live events and sport. Nowadays it is common for minor celebrities in other fields to take on this role, but there are also a number of people who have made their name solely within the field of presenting, particularly within children's television series to become a television personality.
