MED1

Mediator of RNA polymerase II transcription subunit 1 also known as DRIP205 or Trap220 is a subunit of the Mediator complex and is a protein that in humans is encoded by the MED1 gene. MED1 functions as a nuclear receptor coactivator.

Function

The activation of gene transcription is a multistep process that is triggered by factors that recognize transcriptional enhancer sites in DNA. These factors work with co-activators to direct transcriptional initiation by the RNA polymerase II apparatus. The mediator of RNA polymerase II transcription subunit 1 protein is a subunit of the CRSP (cofactor required for SP1 activation) complex, which, along with TFIID, is required for efficient activation by SP1. This protein is also a component of other multisubunit complexes [e.g., thyroid hormone receptor-(TR-) associated proteins that interact with TR and facilitate TR function on DNA templates in conjunction with initiation factors and cofactors]. It also regulates p53-dependent apoptosis and it is essential for adipogenesis. This protein is known to have the ability to self-oligomerize.

Annex (comics)

Annex (Alexander Ellis) is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character is usually depicted as associated with Spider-Man. His first appearance was in The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #27. Annex' powers were the result of prosthetics through computer technology. After losing a leg, he volunteered for this program. Ellis now possesses the ability to increase his physical abilities, as well as create any weapon he requires.

Publication history

Annex was created by writer Jack C. Harris and artist Tom Lyle and first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #27 (1993) as an enemy of Spider-Man, but went on to become an ally. His next appearance was Spider-Man Unlimited #3, followed by a self-titled limited series, Annex.

He appeared in the Avengers: the Initiative series beginning with issue #13.

Fictional character biography

Ellis is a Desert Storm veteran whose leg was wounded in combat. The damage to his leg was so extensive, his leg had to be amputated. He signed up for an Annexing unit, where computer technology will grow a newly functioning limb. Because of a computer glitch, Ellis loses his memory and becomes the villain Annex. Annex is quickly defeated by Spider-Man, and changes back into Ellis.

Arellano University

Arellano University (AU) is a private, coeducational and nonsectarian university located in Manila, Philippines. It was founded in 1938 as a law school by Florentino Cayco, Sr., the first Filipino Undersecretary of Public Instruction. AU was named after Cayetano Arellano, the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines. One of the components that make up AU is the autonomous Arellano University School of Law, managed by the Arellano Law Foundation. Its athletic team, the Arellano University Chiefs, is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association since 2009.

History

Arellano University began on 1938 when it was established as a law school by Florentino Cayco, Sr., the first Filipino Undersecretary of Public Instruction and an educator. The newly founded institution offers the regular four-year law course and was named as Arellano Law College. It was one of the well-known institution by that time by catering to numerous prolific people in the field of law and public service.
