Anjali Joseph

Anjali Joseph (born 1978) is a British-Indian author, journalist, and teacher. Her first novel, Saraswati Park (2010), was a critical success and earned her several awards, including the Betty Trask Prize and the Desmond Elliott Prize. Her second novel, Another Country, was released in 2012. In 2010, she was listed by the The Telegraph as one of the 20 best writers under the age of 40.

Life and career

Anjali Joseph was born in Mumbai in the year 1978. Her father, a research scientist, is a Malayali and her mother is Bengali-Gujrati. At the age of seven, her family relocated to England.

Joseph studied English at the Trinity College, Cambridge after which she dabbled in various professions. She taught French and English in London and Paris, respectively, after which she worked as a journalist with The Times of India in Mumbai. She subsequently trained to be a chartered accountant, but was disappointed with the career. She then completed an MA in Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia, after which she published her first novel Saraswati Park in 2010.

Joseph is a fashion brand and retail chain that was established in London by Moroccan entrepreneur Joseph Ettedgui and his family in 1972.

History of the brand

The Joseph brand grew from a small shop attached to a hairdressing salon in King's Road, Chelsea, owned by Casablanca-born Joseph Ettedgui and his brothers Maurice and Franklin, to more than 20 London stores, with eight additional outlets in New York and Paris plus stores in Leeds and Manchester.

Joseph Ettedgui’s love of fashion meant the brothers began displaying designer clothes in their hair salon in the 1960s, including the work of pioneering Japanese designer Kenzo Takada. The success of this early collaboration led to a move into fashion retailing, with the first store opening below the Chelsea hair salon in the early 1970s and the first large-scale retail outlet opening on Sloane Street in 1979.

Joseph stores championed the work of many up-and-coming designers, including Margaret Howell, Katharine Hamnett, John Galliano and Azzedine Alaïa. Own brand clothing began with distinctive knitwear (Joseph Tricot) and went on to include women’s clothing, perfume, homewares (Joseph Pour La Maison), and Joe's restaurants. Joseph has been the recipient of a number of British Fashion Awards, including Knitwear Designer of the Year four times between 1990 and 1994 and a British Fashion Award in 2000 presented by Cherie Blair.

Anjali (TV series)

Anjali (Tamil: அஞ்சலி) is an Tamil soap opera that was aired on Sun TV. The show premiered on 27 November 2006. It aired Monday through Friday at 6:00PM IST. The show starring by Mallika, Prajin, Devadarshini, Poovilangu Mohan, Subhalekha Sudhakar and Rindhiya.

The show is produced by Aniksha Productions Anitha Kumaran and director by C.J.Bhaskar. The title track was composed by Kesava Kiran and Lyrics by Vairamuthu. The show last aired on 25 April 2008 and ended with 358 episodes. It was also aired in Sri Lanka Tamil Channel on Shakthi TV.

Plot

The story revolved around the girl Anjali. She was a girl who was brought up from a rather poor family. Ashok was a rich guy who fell in love with Anjali. He was very adamant and at point of time, he succeeded in marrying her. Anjali's father was happy that a rich guy had married his daughter. He was also the son of his employer. Ashok's dad I was not so happy in this marriage, but he accepted for the sake of his son’s happiness. After their marriage, Anjali moved into Ashok's house and one day end up seeing Ashok's father strangling his sister. The story took a turn, when Anjali knew that a girl was after Ashok and the mystery about the girl she was having. Anjali was shocked about this. The rest of the story was about her finding the truth and about the way Ashok dealt with the situation. The serial was watched by the audience with interest and they were curious about the turns and twists. The suspense was about the connection between Ashok and the child. The story was knitted in a such way that it made the viewers remain astonished at the end of every episode.

Anjali is a 1977 Indian Malayalam film, directed by IV Sasi and produced by A Raghunath. The film stars Prem Nazir, Sharada, MG Soman and Adoor Bhasi in lead roles. The film had musical score by G. Devarajan.
