Animal Logic

Animal Logic is an Australian animation and visual effects studio based at Fox Studios in Sydney, Australia and Warner Bros. Studios in Los Angeles, California, USA. Established in 1991, Animal Logic has produced visual effects and animation for feature films such as The Great Gatsby, Walking with Dinosaurs 3D, The Matrix, 300, the Academy Award-winning Happy Feet, Moulin Rouge! and Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole. Animal Logic also produced the animation on The Lego Movie, directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller and released in February 2014. Animal Logic was recognised for its work as lead visual effects vendor on Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby, when it won Outstanding Achievement in Visual Effects at the 3rd AACTA Awards ceremony.

Overview

In 1991, Zareh Nalbandian and Chris Godfrey formed and founded a digital studio in Crows Nest, Sydney, Australia. The company was named Animal Logic and was born out of the now defunct Video Paint Brush Company. Animal Logic moved to Fox Studios Australia in Moore Park, Sydney, in 1998.

Animal Logic (band)

Animal Logic is the name of a band (and its eponymous first release) formed in 1987 by ex-Police drummer Stewart Copeland, virtuoso bassist Stanley Clarke, and singer-songwriter Deborah Holland. The group recorded two albums under the auspices of Police manager Miles Copeland III before disbanding, with nearly all the songs recorded supplied by Holland.

Copeland's former bandmate in The Police, guitarist Andy Summers, was also a member of the group in its initial stages when it was known as "Rush Hour," but left following a short Brazilian tour in late 1987 prior to the recording of the first album. Subsequently, Michael Thompson was called upon at the last minute to record guitar parts, leading to him touring with the band as a supporting player. Rusty Anderson, later lead guitarist for Paul McCartney, also recorded and toured with the group. Neither Thompson nor Anderson were full-fledged group members.

The band purchased the name (for $5,000) from the original Animal Logic band, which was based in Harrisonburg, Virginia, and led by Rob Hatch of Fairfax, who is now a film producer.
