Fun

Fun is the enjoyment of pleasure, particularly in leisure activities. Fun is an experience — short-term, often unexpected, informal, not cerebral and generally purposeless. It is an enjoyable distraction, diverting the mind and body from any serious task or contributing an extra dimension to it. Although particularly associated with recreation and play, fun may be encountered during work, social functions, and even seemingly mundane activities of daily living. It may often have little to no logical basis, and opinions on whether or not an activity is fun may differ. A distinction between enjoyment and fun is difficult but possible to articulate, fun being a more spontaneous, playful, or active event. There are psychological and physiological implications to the experience of fun.

Etymology and usage

The word is associated with sports, high merriment, and amusement. Although its etymology is uncertain, it may be derived from fonne (fool) and fonnen (the one fooling the other). Its meaning in 1727 was "cheat, trick, hoax", a meaning still retained in the phrase "to make fun of".

Fun (band)

Fun (stylized as fun.) is an American indie band based in New York City. It was formed by Nate Ruess, former lead singer of The Format, with Andrew Dost and Jack Antonoff, of Anathallo and Steel Train respectively. Fun has released two albums: Aim and Ignite in August 2009 and Some Nights in February 2012.

The band is best known for three hit singles from Some Nights: Grammy Award-winning "We Are Young" (featuring Janelle Monáe), "Some Nights", and "Carry On". "We Are Young" reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and Digital Songs charts. It also peaked at number one in the United Kingdom. "Some Nights" was released as the album's second single in June 2012, peaking at number three on the Hot 100 chart and becoming Fun's second Top 10 single, as well as the band's second song to reach platinum status in the United States.

On February 10, 2013, Fun won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist and the Grammy Award for Song of the Year for "We Are Young". Additionally, Fun was a nominee for four other Grammy Awards: Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo or Group Performance (both for "We Are Young") along with Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album (both for Some Nights).

Angora were a band featuring lead vocalist and harmonica player John Corabi, guitarist Jimmy Marchiano, bassist Frank Schmeca, and drummer Robert Iezza.

The band recorded a demo tape before the members went on to other bands.

John Corabi went on to form Saints Or Sinners, which later changed their name to The Scream, with former Racer X members guitarist Bruce Bouillet, bassist John Alderete, and drummer Scott Travis. However, Scott Travis soon left Saints Or Sinners to join Judas Priest and was replaced by former Shark Island drummer Walt Woodward III.

Frank Schmeca and Robert Iezza went on to form The Graveyard Train with lead vocalist Todd Griffin and guitarist Bruce Draper. Jimmy Marchiano is currently a guitarist for the popular Led Zeppelin tribute band, "Get the Led Out".

After The Scream, John Corabi temporarily replaced Vince Neil in Mötley Crüe.

Angora (SEPTA station)

Angora is a railway station in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania along the Media/Elwyn Line. It is officially located at 58th Street near Baltimore Avenue in Southwest Philadelphia's Angora neighborhood, however the actual location is south of Baltimore Avenue. Part of Cobbs Creek Parkway runs along 58th Street from Baltimore Avenue, over the railroad bridge, to nearby Hoffman Avenue. In 2013, this station saw 36 boardings and 37 alightings on an average weekday, making it SEPTA's least used regional rail station.

Angora station lies several blocks southeast of the Angora Loop, which is the western terminus of Route 34 on the SEPTA Subway-Surface Trolley Lines, a line that runs along Baltimore Avenue, three blocks north of the station.
