Andy Diagram (born 1959 in London) is a British musician and trumpet player. He has worked with the instrument in a variety bands and contexts ranging from pop and rock to experimental jazz, art rock and dance music. He is best known for his work with James (having been a member from 1989 to 1992 during the band's popular peak in the UK, and rejoining for the ongoing band reformation in 2007), with Spaceheads and with the Pere Ubu singer David Thomas.
Andy Diagram has been a unique voice on the trumpet for more than 25 years. He developed his own style over that time in a variety of very different projects. Creating large soundscapes of brass with the use of electronics, looping his trumpet in multiple echo machines, and with the ingenious use of harmonisers he builds not just luscious washes of sound but also pulsating and infectious rhythms.
Spending much of the 1980s in Manchester, England, he recorded and toured with a range of bands on the rock, pop and jazz scenes (from The Diagram Brothers, Dislocation Dance and the Pale Fountains) before joining James in 1989. Andy stayed on for two of the band's most successful albums (Gold Mother and Seven) before leaving James in 1992. (He made a special return for the band's farewell tour in 2001 at the MEN Arena.)
You don't know how much I want this to work
Want my heart on sleeves up your favorite shirt
You keep blaming for giving you my all
Sometimes it gets to love you gotta fall (I fell so deep)
Look up and you were there with me
Somewhere along this road got blind I couldn't see
I'll be homey what is feels the way I do
It's not too hard I can't be mad at you
Baby
You don't love me like I love you
But I guess it ain't a crime
You don't need me like I need you
But I guess it ain't a crime
You ain't hurtin like I'm hurtin
But I guess it ain't a crime
Stay in here any longer
It's just a waste of time
(Repeat)
I told myself to never get in this position
Now I'm contemplating making this descision
Leaving you is the best thing I can do
But I gotta feeling little hurt being more than you
Look up and you were there with me
Somewhere along this road got blind I couldn't see
I'll be homey what is feels the way I do
It's not too hard I can't be mad at you
Baby
You don't love me like I love you
But I guess it ain't a crime
You don't need me like I need you
But I guess it ain't a crime
You ain't hurtin like I'm hurtin
But I guess it ain't a crime
Stay in here any longer
It's just a waste of time
(Repeat)
I want to tell you boy the truth
But now I'm fuss to face it
If you can give me your love baby but not replace it
It wont be easy but I know this much is true
I'd be doin fine known my home without you
So go hey you can go boy were finish you're hey
Cause you're heart really ain't in it so go hey
I'll be doin fine aint of sense of expect you win
It's just a waste of time
You don't love me like I love you
But I guess it ain't a crime
You don't need me like I need you
But I guess it ain't a crime
You ain't hurtin like I'm hurtin
But I guess it ain't a crime
Stay in here any longer
It's just a waste of time
