Android Beam

Android Beam is a feature of the Android mobile operating system that allows data to be transferred via near field communication (NFC). It allows the rapid short-range exchange of web bookmarks, contact info, directions, YouTube videos, and other data. Android Beam was introduced in Android version 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). This was improved after Google aquired Bump!.

Description

Usage

Android Beam is activated by placing devices back to back with the content to be shared displayed on the screen. If the content is able to be sent, the screen will shrink down and display "Tap to Beam" at the top. Tapping the screen sends the content from the one device to the other. A sound will play when devices are near and able to beam. When the data has been sent, a confirmation tone will play or a negative tone will play if failed and the content will shrink off the screen indicating beaming is complete. Sharing is one direction and the device sending content will not get content from the receiving device.

In musical notation, a beam is a horizontal or diagonal line used to connect multiple consecutive notes (and occasionally rests) in order to indicate rhythmic grouping. Only eighth notes (quavers) or shorter can be beamed. The number of beams is equal to the number of flags that would be present on an un-beamed note.

Grouping

The span of beams indicates the rhythmic grouping, usually determined by the time signature. Therefore, beams do not usually cross bar lines, or major sub-divisions of bars. If notes extend across these divisions, this is indicated with a tie.

In modern practice beams may span across rests in order to make rhythmic groups clearer.

In vocal music, beams were traditionally used only to connect notes sung to the same syllable. In modern practice it is more common to use standard beaming rules, while indicating multi-note syllables with slurs.

Positioning

Notes joined by a beam usually have all the stems pointing in the same direction (up or down). The average pitch of the notes is used to determine the direction – if the average pitch is below the middle staff-line, the stems and beams usually go above the note head, otherwise they go below.

A beam is a structural element that is capable of withstanding load primarily by resisting against bending. The bending force induced into the material of the beam as a result of the external loads, own weight, span and external reactions to these loads is called a bending moment. Beams are characterized by their profile (shape of cross-section), their length, and their material.

Beams are traditionally descriptions of building or civil engineering structural elements, but smaller structures such as truck or automobile frames, machine frames, and other mechanical or structural systems contain beam structures that are designed and analyzed in a similar fashion.

Overview

Historically beams were squared timbers but are also metal, stone, or combinations of wood and metal such as a flitch beam. Beams generally carry vertical gravitational forces but can also be used to carry horizontal loads (e.g., loads due to an earthquake or wind or in tension to resist rafter thrust as a tie beam or (usually) compression as a collar beam). The loads carried by a beam are transferred to columns, walls, or girders, which then transfer the force to adjacent structural compression members. In light frame construction joists may rest on beams.

"Android" (stylized as "ANDROID") is the 35th Japanese single by South Korean pop duo Tohoshinki. It was released on July 11, 2012 as the third single from their sixth Japanese studio album, Time (2013). The single pushed the group's total single sales in Japan to over 3.1 million, the highest of any foreign artist in the country. "Android" was released in three editions – a CD+DVD version, a CD-only version, and a Bigeast Board edition.

Produced and co-written by Emil Carlin, "Android" is a dubstep song with a futuristic theme. It peaked at number one on Japan's Oricon weekly charts, and was the fourth best-selling single of the month. It also peaked at number two on Billboard's Japan Hot 100 and Japan Hot Singles Sales charts. After the first week of release, it was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ).

Background and release

"Android" was released on July 11, 2012. The song was first played on Bay FM radio in Japan on the night of June 16, 2012, a month prior to its release. "Android" was the first dance-orientated track the duo has released since "Superstar" and "B.U.T.", both which were released in 2011. The single was offered digitally via iTunes Japan, as well as three physical editions. The regular edition CD, a limited edition CD+DVD combo with the "Android" music video as well as an "Off-Shot Movie," and the CD+DVD, all which contained the title track "Android" and the B-side "Blink", which was written by Johan Gustafson, Fredrik Haggstam, Sebastian Lundberg and Andrew Jackson.

What Evil Lurks

What Evil Lurks is an EP by English band The Prodigy. The 12" vinyl record was released in a limited number in February 1991, selling around 7000 copies.

The four songs were part of the 10-track demo Howlett sent to XL Recordings when he was attempting to obtain a record deal. Before "What Evil Lurks" had released, "Android" got an early release in November 1990 and it was released on the expanded version of Experience. The original version of "Everybody in the Place" is featured on the record and is different from the eventual Fairground Version on the single with the same name.

The EP was re-issued in a limited edition on 27 September 2004, to celebrate the 15th anniversary of XL Recordings.

In the Netherlands "Android" was at that time the floorfiller, so local version had it as an a-side with "Everybody In The Place" while "What Evil Lurks" and "We Gonna Rock" were both b-side.
