Andrew Haug is a radio announcer and heavy metal musician from Melbourne, Australia. He is one of the most prominent figures on Australia's largely underground heavy metal scene.

Haug started his radio career doing the heavy metal music program The Hard Report for Melbourne community radio station 3RRR. He was most notable as the presenter of the heavy metal music program Full Metal Racket (formerly 3 Hours of Power and currently The Racket) on Australian alternative music radio station Triple J, which he hosted from 2001 to 2011.[1][2] He has stated that he did not leave Triple J by his choosing.[3]

Haug also plays drums with Metalcore/Death metal outfit Contrive, which also features his identical twin brother Paul Haug on lead vocals/guitar.

In 2002, Haug was convinced by notorious Australian media prankster/comedian John Safran (a long-time friend of his and a former colleague at 3RRR) to appear on his SBS television series John Safran's Music Jamboree. His appearance involved a Christian psychic who monitored him during a radio broadcast and at a Contrive live gig, claiming she could see "dark spirits" who were supposedly attracted to him due to his interest in heavy metal music.

Andrew has also been a guest programmer for the ABC's music video show Rage.

Early years [link]

Andrew was born to Alan and Maree in Melbourne, Victoria, along with twin brother Paul in 1973.

A younger brother Simon followed 2 years later. A divorce soon followed with Andrew and Paul going to live with their father, Alan, in the middle class suburb of Templestowe, Victoria. Myrpdata.com shows the median house price for Templestowe as of March 2012 as $1,168,000 ASD or approximately $1.75 Million USD. However, the Haug household was anything but a "median" property as it was set on an acre and boasted a tennis court and inground pool, as well as, a housekeeper who attended to Andrew and Paul by catering to their needs. The twins attended private schooling, going to Kingswood college, however their poor scholastic abilities led to them having to change schools many many times. Neither Andrew nor Paul bothered to learn how to play a musical instrument in their teenage years.

During this period Andrew befriended Alan Thomas, who hosted a metal radio show on 3RRR community radio. Andrew and Paul phoned into Alan's show every week, identifying themselves as the "evil twins", with Paul being evil twin 1 and Andrew being evil twin 2. Eventually Alan Thomas decided he no longer wanted to host his show, and asked Andrew if he wanted to try hosting the metal show on 3RRR community radio. Andrew grabbed the chance, and begin hosting duties. Andrew had an on-air sidekick called Tony, a hardcore fan. Though Andrew was now in his 20's (being born in 1973) Andrew had never learned to play an instrument, and at this ripe old age finally decided to learn drums. Brother Paul followed suit, starting to learn to play guitar in his 20's.
