Anders Holch Povlsen

Anders Holch Povlsen (born 1972) is a Danish businessman who is the CEO and sole owner of the fashion chain Bestseller, a company founded by his parents, Troels Holch Povlsen and Merete Bech Povlsen. He is also the second largest private landowner in Scotland.

Early life

Anders Holch Povlsen was born in 1972. He is the son of Troels Holch Povlsen and Merete Bech Povlsen, who founded Bestseller in Ringkøbing, Denmark in 1975.

Career

He inherited his parents's business, Bestseller, when he was twenty-eight years old. He eventually became its only owner. He serves as its Chief Executive Officer.

In 2013, Povlsen bought a 10% stake in the German internet clothes retailer Zalando, becoming the third largest shareholder. Bestseller already has a 27% stake in ASOS.com, the largest UK internet-only fashion retailer.

According to Forbes, Povlsen has a net worth of $5.8 billion, as of June 2015.

Landowner

In 2012, The Daily Telegraph reported that Povlsen owns about 120,000 acres (49,000 ha) in Scotland, having bought two further large estates, the 24,000-acre Ben Loyal, and 18,000-acre Kinloch, both in Sutherland. These are in addition to a 47,000-acre estate he bought in Inverness-shire in 2006 and a 30,000-acre estate near Fort William that he bought in 2008.

In Sweden, Anders has been one of the most common names for many centuries. According to Statistics Sweden, as of December 31, 2002, it ranks 4th among the male names. The great frequency of this name at the point in time (around 1900) when patronymics were converted into family names is the reason why 1 out of every 30 Swedes today are called Andersson.

The name day of Anders in the Scandinavian calendar is November 30, and in the old peasant superstition that day was important for determining what the Christmas weather would be. If it was very cold on November 30, there would be much sleet on Christmas (and vice versa).

The Fering name Anders may have been borrowed from the Danish version. The equivalent of Anders in Basque is Ander, which is also a very common name.

The WPB Anders (Polish: Wielozadaniowa Platforma Bojowa Anders i.e. Anders Multirole Combat Platform) is a family of medium, tracked combat vehicles. The vehicle was designed by OBRUM ( Polish: Ośrodek Badawczo-Rozwojowy Urządzeń Mechanicznych – Research and Development Centre for Mechanical Appliances) part of the Bumar Group. It is named after Władysław Anders, a general of the Polish Army during World War II and later a member of the Polish government-in-exile.

History

The vehicle was designed to replace the Polish Army's remaining inventory of obsolete BMP-1 fighting vehicles, the first prototype being publicly shown in 2010, at the MSPO Kielce defense industry exhibition. During its first presentation, the vehicle was shown in its fire support configuration (Polish: wóz wsparcia ogniowego), armed with a 120mm tank gun. The media referred to this vehicle as a "light tank". Later, the same vehicle was shown configured as an infantry fighting vehicle (Polish: bojowy wóz piechoty) with a KTO Rosomak Hitfist-30P turret. A more advanced IFV prototype is expected to be shown at the 2011 MSPO Kielce exhibition. Further variants, such as command and control, medical evacuation, combat-engineering and self-propelled anti-aircraft gun are also planned.
